A white Squeezebox Boom ?

I'm thinking about spray-painting one of my idle Boom's white.

I'm just not sure how it will look, and was wondering if anyone had done something similar and could share a final picture.

I'd mask off the display screen and buttons & knob leaving them black. I'm not sure about the top snooze-button area.

If anyone has gone down this path, I'd be interested in any final photos, or tips (eg. paint type, prep required on case)

Have you seen a white radio? If not, I can post a picture of one. I actually like the looks of my red and white radios over the piano black. I like how the white "wraps" the black face.

I think it would look real good. If it were me (my tastes, not necessarily yours), I would paint just the outer shell (like the radio), leaving the control panel, speaker grills, and top area black. If you paint any of the areas that have the tactile finish, you would first have to remove that finish (not easy). The best results that I have done for removal (radio knobs) is my sanding.

As far as painting, I have done a fair bit of "hobby" painting. I think the shell is ABS. I would disassemble (there is a thread on it), then sand with wet or dry sandpaper (silicon carbide), probably wet. Use, say 240 to start to remove all of the scratches, then work down 320, then finally 400 or 600 or 800. The plastic should look dull and smooth, you should not see any sand marks. It always amazes me how the tiniest "marks" in the finish don't get "filled in" my the paint, they show right through.

Before painting, wipe with mineral spirits with a lint free cloth, let dry, then light coats. If you want, you could always over coat with clear (test the clear on a scrap painted with white to make sure it doesn't attack the white which has happened to me. You could choose the sheen you like in the clear.

I forgot to mention, build a stand or a way to hang the shell so you can easily paint all sides/bottom.

While the boom is apart you can address any stickiness on the panel, etc.. There is a thread on it, I can find it if you haven't seen it.

(I've already cleaned up the stickiness on all my booms previously - so that's 1 less job)

I hadn't thought about just doing the case in white. That may even be a phase 1 - do the case, do a temp reassemble and see how it looks before I decide on the grills and panel.

I've seen a red radio, but couldn't find a pic of a white one. If you've got a link that would be great.

There are a couple on ebay here is the US, but none with the right angle of view (like @ktp's picture) https://www.ebay.com/itm/15510955505...Bk9SR6qV7ejvYA. I have a white one on hand and I'll take a couple pictures and post it, once the sun comes up

I personally, really like the complimentary contrast of the red and black and white and black compared to all black. Similar to white vehicles. I personally don't think white vehicles stand out, but when a friend got one with black bumpers, grill, wheels (and obviously tires), and trim, it looks super sharp.

Of course the radios all sound the same, and I am sure your boom will as well.

I was having trouble, with load errors, that had never happened before, so I tried another picture on my desktop, it worked. So I cropped them. They loaded (as links not pics?) but the preview included the fishing picture from my desktop . Since that wasn't relevant, I cut the [attach] text and started fresh, previewed then posted, and they worked for me. But I apparently broke something, I'll try again
