  • 'ALBUM ARTIST' or 'ALBUMARTIST', Does it matter?

With the current version of SBS, does it matter which is used? Does it matter per tag type (ID3, Vorbis/Flac)or file type? ...as long as the right tag is used per file type

    Thanks

Edit: I get the impression that it does not...

If you have FLAC files you should ideally only be using FLAC (vorbis) tags. any additional ID tags can cause confusion.

Artist and Albumartist are 2 different tags. Normally you only need to worry about Artist. Albumartist is used typically where you have collaborations...

    for example:

    Raising Sand
    Artist: "Robert Plant; Alison Kraus"
Albumartist: "Robert Plant & Alison Kraus"

That will populate the "Band/Orchestra" field in SBS with Albumartist

You then have a choice (via another setting in My Music) to list the albums either by the individual Artist tags or by the Albumartist tag...
You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...

For SBS, it doesn't matter if you use "ALBUM ARTIST" or "ALBUMARTIST", although it's probably a good idea to be consistent across your files as to which one you decide to use.

I would recommend "ALBUM ARTIST", as this is what Foobar uses.

Starting with J. River Media Center version 15.0.99:

            10. Changed: Ogg and flac tags map database PUBLISHER to ORGANIZATION, database ORGANIZATION (if existing) to JR_ORGANIZATION, and if there's an ALBUM ARTIST write it out as both ALBUM ARTIST and ALBUMARTIST. Read either, ALBUM ARTIST preferentially.

foobar is the only application that I've ever seen that insists on using 'ALBUM ARTIST', with a space.

It just looks like whatever application that is, is reading and displaying all of the vorbis comments.

It is J River Media Center.

The mode you see is the physical tag window, which shows the tags in the Vorbis comment block (or other block, where appropriate). Normally this info is not shown, rather MCs internal database is used.

Test it out - you just might like it! Its querying capabilities, expressions, searching, and View schemes are wonderful (and yet the language is so Excel-ish and archaic).
