  • LMS on ReadyNAS Pro

    Hi all,
Running LMS on my ReadyNAS Pro, streaming to Touch and BoomBox via WiFi.
Looking at running the touch via LAN on the "second" network plug on the back of the NAS.
The first network is connected to my wireless router.

Plugged in and tried a few things, and finally got the SqueezBox to connect to the "second" network.
However, it could not access my music ( library not found )

Original IP ( first network, this one works WiFi and LAN ) is 192.168.1.1
    The second IP is 192.168.2.1
Touch connects to 192.168.2.1 but cannot find the music files.

Has anyone successfully configured their system this way ? and would you be able to share how to do it ?
Would be great to have both of the NAS networks accessing the LMS / music files

    cheers
    Dave

keep them on the same network that's your first problem all IP should be in the 192.168.1.x subnet 255.255.255.0 range otherwise it would not work ( easilly ) and it migth also be some fuzz configuring your NAS .

Easy fix just by a small network switch and connect the squeezebox and the NAS to that and wire the switch back to the router . Such switch cost like 20$ and your time is worth more

What i wanted to do was to have the NAS in the man-cave.
Have the NAS connected to the ADSL router WAP ( which is at the other end of the house ) so the rest of the family can access the music/photos/movies on it via the 192.168.1.1 network

Plug the SBT into the "Second" network port on the NAS, because that is where the HiFi is located

I know that I could just use a switch ( got a couple spares ) and be done with it, but since the NAS has TWO networks, it would be a much more elegant ( and simpler ) solution to use what is already there.

Surely someone has done it ?

What i think is going on is that LMS only listen to one network interface so some kind of bridging ? migth be necessary .
Or port forwarding between the two networks ( just like you do when you for example want to use LMS away from home ).

LMS is basically made for one network , for example server discovery for players is an udp broadcast on port 3483 then all players on the network can automatically find the server .

Or can the other ethernet port be given an 192.168.1. X adress would that work ?

Not sure, will have to wait until i am back home ( Wednesday ) to try a few more ideas.

Though from memory, the second network port is fixed at 192.168.2.1 ?? i'll have to check.

I'm not sure that it will work even then , you probably have to ask around (or google ) about networking in general . The NAS would probably not act just like a switch when using both Ethernet ports .

So someone more network savy than me ? have any specific idea ?
