people who run LMS locally (no mysb.com) and either know everything and can resolve their own issues, or are two shy to join our interesting banter, call this Y.
(=)
number of active sb "users"
Note: Multiple runs of the data can be done by varying X to find the statistical sweet spot; Y, well...how many can there be? Most of the "know everything" post here, that leaves only the shy, maybe this can be 42
42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything !
Ok, my guess is 20,681.
Anyway, which of those fine gentlemen is yourself?
None! I'm a Canon of St Paul's Cathedral, Nicosia, not of St Paul's, London, still less of Westminster Abbey. And all those guys are laymen - they need to be big lads - the brass candlesticks are heavy and the processional cross in the centre (the top of which cannot be seen) will be even heavier! (The cross bearer is at least three inches taller than the candle bearers and look at the shoulders on him!)
So, 20.7k Squeezeboxes out there, all making demands on the Logitech servers.
In UK: rPi4 running LMS, Chromecast Audio Dongle and Chromecast Video Dongle attached to TV - Beresford DAC - Quad 77 Integrated Amp - AVI Neutron 4 Speakers - Sennheiser HD25 Headphones. Boom in Bedroom.
In Nicosia: LMS running on a small form factor Windows PC, Beresford DAC into Quad 405-2 and MB Quart 980s

Yep, not easy. I have to tell management whenever they ask. LMS users
are hard to count. That's why I appreciate it when people don't disable
MySB integration. Because usage is moving away from the pure MySB model
to running LMS on something like a Pi, even if only dealing with music
services and radio stations.
> users as - afaik - LMS doesn't talk to any Logitech servers. But the
It does, unless you've disabled all integration. Eg. when checking for
updates, or when interacting with MySB based music services (Deezer,
Pandora, TIDAL). But trying to map those requests to user identities and
players is no precise science...

As outlined above I don't have precise numbers, but good guesstimations.
But then my company doesn't like to share such numbers.
What would your guesses be? Maybe I can elect a winner to give you an
idea :-D.
Perhaps removing the option to disable mySB integration is in the best interest in the future of LMS. Or last least put a statement in the information box that keeping integration active allows Logitech to continue to support LMS.
I use MySB when I just need to stream music from the internet. I figured out a while ago that if MySB does not get used by enough people, someone at Logitech will pull the plug.
For a guess, is it MySB accounts or devices connected to MySB? If devices, then is it only Logitech hardware or does it include all the hardware (pis, etc) running squeezelite?
. . . is it MySB accounts or devices connected to MySB [that counts]? If devices, then is it only Logitech hardware or does it include all the hardware (pis, etc) running squeezelite?
I wondered about that. I have only one true Squeezebox (a Boom). All other instances are boxes running Squeezelite or Chromecast Audio dongles masquerading via Castbridge.

You better don't ask. It might hurt the numbers!
Michael
"It doesn't work - what shall I do?" - "Please check your server.log and/or scanner.log file!"

Of course owning proper branded Squeezeboxes becomes harder and the old hardware becomes unserviceable.
Now if Logitech could be encouraged to do a production run of PolyVection type dongles the numbers would change dramatically. How hard can that be for a large corporation like Logitech? They could then more easily keep their option open to launch a new range of smart speakers to run against Sonos et al.
I know, a hopeless cause.
