      • I am a little late to discovering this group "All Them Witches" but I heard them on RadioParadise and thought they are brilliant. Kinda like the Doors meet Pink Floyd. Bought several albums off of Bandcamp and haven't found a song I didn't like Click image for larger version

          Ha! https://forums.slimdevices.com/forum...13#post1627013

I love the sound of the recording location, hard to describe. I had never thought of Doors/Floyd, but makes sense. I had originally thought modern versions of old raw blues (kind of like early Jack White) but after listening, it's so much more

            • I bought this from a guy at school who was ditching all his prog rock vinyl when punk arrived. That was his story anyway. More likely reason is the presence of many extremely loud pops in a few of the tracks. It was so bad I rarely played it, but now with needledrops and decent software the pops are no longer a barrier to enjoyment 😀

This might interest you - Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan - evoking the development of the post-war new towns of the UK. It kind of appeals, as I live close to one of the best known new towns...from Bandcamp:
The fourth Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan album, The Nation's Most Central Location, sees Gordon Chapman-Fox explore the north-south divide and reflect on 40 years of broken 'levelling up' promises.

With eight tracks across 40 minutes, the album offers Gordon's usual mix of mournful remorse and upbeat optimism. Gordon has now added an underlying anger that burns through on tracks such as London's Moving Our Way and A Brighter And More Prosperous Future.

I shall give that a spin (stream from Qobuz). I am not far from that neck of the woods myself - South Cheshire. TBH I'm not that fond of Warrington (apart from Doug Brady's).

                    • Returning to an old favourite today - Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica (1969), a classic album from the late 60s, and product of an 'unusual' and controlling band environment, and around which a swathe of rumour and tall stories revolve. Anyway, this is the key Beefheart album, a double LP of mutant blues. Definitely one that takes a few listens to get on board.

I have always considered Trout Mask Replica to be the ultimate test of musical taste. It is a bizarre work to say the least but if after a couple of listens you end up thinking "yes, I get that" then you pass the test. Most people take one listen and dismiss it forever more.

I first heard it back in the day. I borrowed it from the Library and made a cassette copy (for personal study only) but the tape went the way of many other C90s i.e. a mangeld mess in the footwell of my car next to the obligatory bic pen! I remember it being a hard listen as a spotty youth.
In later years I picked up a CD copy and surprised myself just how interesting it is even after 50 odd years!

Apparently I have too many vinyl records, so I am trying to reduce their arrival in the house as they are representing a significant storage issue.
