    • Can’t really say just how much I love this album.

FLAC needledrop from my original Vinyl copy. There was a later US version that added an extra track which to my ears spoils the flow but this is the UK Island original version from 1974.

Roden’s debut solo album on Island recorded in New Orleans with Allen Toussaint and at Island’s studios at Basing Street in London. A little bizarrely the London cuts are funkier.

I keep an eye on recommendations from a variety of sources - record stores, bandcamp, various websites etc. For vinyl orders, Norman Records in Leeds is a go-to mail order emporium that caters for my tastes quite well.

                      • Here's the other 2LP that showed up - Heavenly Persona by Shizuka. Available via Bandcamp, Qobuz, and probably other services. Black Editions have made a name for themselves over the last few years with a vinyl reissue programme focussing on the Japanese PSF label. This album is actually three sides of vinyl (the fourth is etched) in what might be the most lavish packaging in my vinyl collection - and with a price tag to match :-(

The music's a bit hard to describe, some of the tracks are heavy psych, others have a more wistful feel. Shizuka herself was a doll-maker, hence the slightly creepy photos, and sadly died some years ago. Definitely one to listen to before purchase, but it's certainly my cup of tea.
