I went back in and removed what seemed like 100s of click repairs manually until I was happy. The final result sounds as good if not better than any of the digital versions I have heard. I found a review where the reviewer compared a later UK Harvest pressing (presumably similar to mine) to the 2003 SACD. He said "while the UK Harvest was somewhat richer in the mids and not quite as 'hot' on top, this deluxe, well packaged reissue is worth having even if you have a clean original". I'll settle for richer mids and no hot top end thanks very much 😄

Well you have heard it before 😄. I wish all vinyl or music in general sounded as good as Floyd albums. Now the master tapes are 50 years old I suppose it shouldn't be surprising that vinyl made more than 45 years ago compares well with modern remasters.

I was surprised at how good the 2018 remaster of Animals is!

Yes, but remix rather than remaster. The Steve Hoffman forum has lots of Americans complaining about the sound of the US vinyl copies of Animals with a fair number reckoning that the UK first pressings are the best. Animals was the first Floyd album I bought on release so mine is a first pressing. I think I bought DSOTM and WYWH shortly afterwards.

I have a 1st Press of Animals also - despite the fact it was released in 1977 and most of my acquisitions that year were a new and different genre!

Having just discovered Pink Floyd, Genesis and Yes I was still ignoring Punk at that time 🤣

My friends and I were late teens when WYWH, Animals, and the Wall came out. We had halfway decent audio gear at the time. I remember that Animals sounded the worse of all including DSOTM, even Meddle. It was a disappointment at the time, until the music grew on us. I thought the master/mix was on purpose (adds to the dark and brooding theme). In fact my CD copies didn't sound so great. That's why I enjoy the 2018 mix

so...I know some of those Americans

The CD copy I have doesn't sound great but the 2011 remaster sounded much better. I am still working on my needle drop 😀

                        • I lost interest in Pink Floyd when Roger Waters' various obsession took prime place. And there was a load of more exciting music around, especially as punk morphed into post-punk.

I hear ya Bob, but they are like a favorite grandfather. As time passes, you spend most of your time enjoying your good friend and meeting new ones, but it's still nice to sit down and spend an hour with your Grandfather. Even if you have heard his stories (songs) a million times

Indeed, I was playing WYWH and DSOTM just this morning, and I occasionally play the earlier LPs, but really I don't like the albums Animals and beyond. Just not to my taste!
