Grumpy Bob posted about this trio the other day. I’d not heard of them before but I’m really liking their brand of jazz. Or is it jazz? It’s different.
Anyway I’m liking it enough that I’ve bought the 8CD box set Necks Box!

Not the sort of thing I listen to much these days, but DSOTM was the first LP I ever bought. In the same transaction, I bought Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers Roadrunner, which is probably a bit more indicative of how my tastes developed!

Have you seen this Guardian report of Roger Waters' solo version of DSOTM? Apparently "Waters seems to have decided that what was wrong with the original album’s beautiful instrumental tracks was that they didn’t have Waters talking all over them. Now they do."

♪ Playing Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts 1–5 by Pink Floyd from Wish You Were Here (Vinyl) (1975) (Local • 692kbps VBR 16bit 44.1kHz FLC)
Many years ago I read something suggesting WD-40 was a cure for surface noise on vinyl. I stupidly tested this on this LP. Now it sounded fine while the WD-40 was still damp but when it dried it sounded dreadful. The WD-40 also caused the LP to adhere to the ADC anti-static record sleeves I had purchased. Fast forward 30 years and Vinyl Clear came to the rescue and made it listenable again 😀. The needle drop didn't go smoothly though. I used an alternative stylus to play each side a couple of times until the surface noise that sometimes occurs after Vinyl Clear treatment disappeared then swapped the original stylus back. On my first capture attempt I thought it was strange that I needed to increase the recording level. When I checked after the first side I realised I hadn't pushed the stylus fully home which explained the volume drop 🤦♂️. Second attempt was fine until I accidentally pressed stop just before the end of the side. Third time lucky 😀.
