Big World was a unique album b/c it was recorded live. It was recorded in the Union Square Theater in NYC that holds about 500 people. I was very lucky to get tickets. I remember the piano was wrapped in moving blankets to suppress echos, and there were mics all over the stage to capture each instrument and recreate a studio setup. The band played a bunch of hits to warm up, then played each song on the album, sometimes stopping and starting over but most songs were recorded in one take. We were very explicitly directed to stay very quiet during and after the songs. It was a very unique event and one of the best sounding concerts I've ever heard.

This is before my time, but my older sister had this album and I all but forgot about this album since my own tastes were developing and the stuff the band produced as I grew older was less interesting to me. On a whim I bought the Steve Wilson remix when I stumbled upon it on Amazon. It's probably been 40 years since I first heard this album and a) all the memories that flooded back and more importantly b) what an amazing sound...Steve Wilson did an amazing job at remixing this album..the horns, the clarity, the separation...amazing. This is one of the best sounding albums I have heard in a long time. If your opinions about this band are tainted by what they put out in their later years, I urge you to put those opinions aside and check this album.

                            • For some reason I'm on a Todd Rundgren trip today:

                              Initiation (1975)
                              Faithful (1976)
                              Healing (1981)

Maybe not his best, but I know the better ones all too well.
