I got such a surprise to see a notification in Windows that an upgrade was ready to be installed. I thought all development had been halted, so what's up?

In UK: rPi4 running LMS, Chromecast Audio Dongle and Chromecast Video Dongle attached to TV - Beresford DAC - Quad 77 Integrated Amp - AVI Neutron 4 Speakers - Sennheiser HD25 Headphones. Boom in Bedroom.
In Nicosia: LMS running on a small form factor Windows PC, Beresford DAC into Quad 405-2 and MB Quart 980s
Development has far from halted, just look at all the changes in 7.8 and 7.9
But on "what happened" for 7.7.4: some hotshot at Logitech probably updated his Mac to Yosemite

Where do I read to get myself up to date? For the last couple of years I have just been using my SBs without a care for what was happening and expecting Logitech to pull the plug any time.
So it seems even though I cannot buy a new SB the server continues to evolve officially.

The official stand on this was: no more features, we'll update LMS 7.7.x
if needed to ensure compatibility with new operating systems and fixing
serious issues.
7.8+ are community builds. Not officially supported by Logitech. That's
where still some new development is happening. Sometimes as a testbed
for 7.7.x, too :-). New platform support was first introduced in 7.8,
then back-ported to 7.7.

Heh... I never considered myself a hotshot ;-).
Seriously: When there's need for an update (eg. OSX compatibility), then
call support. Every call costs us money. At some point those calls are
more expensive than releasing a new build.
And thanks a lot to you, the community, who happily jumped the nightly
train: When I was able to claim that there already were thousands of happy
7.7.4 users, that helped dealing with internal QA a lot!

Just because we made you wait 15 months? C'mon, guys!
No, but because I thought there would be no more updates since Logitech discontinued the Squeezebox unfortunately. It's good to see people like you keeping it alive. I still think there's no comparable streamer to my SB Touch (and SB2).
With the upgrade to 7.7.4, the (Windows) 'Logitech Media Server Service' seems to have disappeared, at least from the list of services. Also, I'm not unable to stop the (now nonexistent) LMS Service by running "net stop squeezesvc" from a command prompt.
Is this expected behavior in 7.7.4 on Windows platforms? And can someone shed some light on what happened here? Thanks!

But does it run at all? Check the control panel, from where you should
be able to configure the service.
