A guide for installing PCP from scratch

I'm looking to install PCP on a PI3 using a windows laptop. I've done this a couple of times, but not done this for few years. Is there guide.

I've download the image onto an SD card, I can find the IP address

I've tried logging into the Pi using SSH (but it won't verify me) following this https://docs.picoreplayer.org/how-to...s_pcp_via_ssh/

I can can however log into PCP main page by pasting the IP address into a chrome browser.

A layman's guide would be welcome

Does this help at all, it's only a partial spoof sheet I made some time ago

Load pCP Image onto SD card

Put sd card in rpi and connect usb stick or hard disk for Library, Ethernet and power supply, power on

      Wait three minutes or so

Open web browser and type http://pcp.local or just pcp.local

The pCP landing page should open

To use as just a server; click on Tweaks > scroll down to Audio Tweaks > Squeezelite . click the radio button for No > click save. Page will reload to Tweaks

Click on Main Page; Scroll down to Additional functions > click on Resize FS >

In the top box Resize partition 2 (PCP_ROOT) select 2000MB from the dropdown and click on Resize

If the page does not come back up after two minutes, refresh the browser or type pcp.local again

Load some extension, DSDPlayer is loaded by default in the 64 bit OS. I always load lame and a helper to make copying an image quicker

From the Main Page > scroll down to, and click on Extensions. Wait until Checking Internet and repository accessiblity. . shows five green ticks

      Click on the Available tab

In the box called Available extensions in the piCorePlayer main repository click on the download box

Select nano.tcz [this is a friendly file editor] click on Load

When it shows as loaded, select pcp-lame.tcz [this helps sometimes with MP3 files] repeat load procedure

When it shows as loaded, select pigz.tcz [this makes backining up quicker] repeat load procedure

When finished return to Main Page.

Scroll to bottom of page and select the Beta tab, ignore the warning

Return to the top of the main page and click on the LMS tab

Scroll down to Install and Enable additional File Systems, click on Install

      Instal ExFat if required

Scroll down to Pick from the following detected USB disks to mount Follow the procedure to mount any disks

Return up the page to Logitech Media Server (LMS) operations and click on Install

When the page returns, scroll down to Set Branch and click on th radio button Development: Select this to select the unstable development branch, then click on Set Branch (accept the warning)

When the Page returns scroll back to this area and select Update LMS (there is a timeout on this, so be smart) click on Manual Update

When the page returns, scroll down to and select Update Libs If all is well the page will return, otherwise follow the instruction the restart.

Return to the top of the page LMS should be running; click on Configure LMS and continue

Thanks Ronnie, the guide seems a heck of a lot easier

Although I got to the below section and wasn't sure what I should be selecting.

Assuming that is a screenshort from your system and you have your music on that USB drive then ...
          type
          music
in the /mnt box and select the "Enabled" box.

              Good Morning/Evening;

I remember being confused about this the first time. Sometimes a picture helps. Here is a screenshot of my system, pcp page on the right, LMS Settings on the left, and File Explorer below (using Samba, for illustration).

Follow the arrows (that lead all over ). Install file systems, choose a mount name, check the box, then click set mount. You should get a grayed check box, as shown. Then you go to the LMS settings page, and use browse to find your music folder(s). Note warning for just typing path in.

Again, the file explorer view is just for reference. I don't want to add to the confusion with the details on my Samba server and share names. I am just showing the explorer to show how the path that is browsed to in LMS is /mnt/<mount point name you enter>/Media/Music, where Media/Music is the folder structure on my HDD.

              Jim

Per Paul, you need to name your mount. I called mine MoyerLMSMusic. You can see once it's mounted and you go to choose your folder to scan your media, it's there:

As per Redrum & Paul Webster you can give it any name you wish (within reason), but keep it simple like mine.

It's so we don't get mixed up with my wife's which is named "daisy" - note the subtle difference.

Thanks All for you help on this.

After all of this I've just realised I've installed this onto my PI2 B (rather than PI3). It there an easy way I can copy this over? (I've just set up Spotify, Sound Cloud, Podcasts, BBC Sounds etc) or do I have to start from scratch again?

This would be better asked on the picore 8 thread, but I think the answer is no. I do know that I could not just move over from a 3b+ to a 4 when I wanted to.

But there are some shortcuts you can take in LMS. Under the slimserver folder, there is cache and prefs. I know (because I do it) you can copy over favorites.opml (for your favorites). You may be able to copy over something similar for podcasts, I just haven't tried it. I supposed you could try copying the prefs folder, haven't tried it.

You are discouraged from copying over the cache folder, but if you want to give it a try, you could. If it crashes, you know not to do it again

What I do is save the favorites.opml, then take a screenshot of my plugins page, and, I go through the other setup pages to see of things I have changed (e.g. https streaming mode to persistent). You could do something similar for the pcp pages.

Once you are up and running, from the main pcp page, you should do a sd card backup of everything, so if your sd fails, just burn a new one. pcp main tab->additional functions->sd image. Note that you can only write the image to a mounted drive, so you could do a couple things. Write it to the drive you just mounted, or, stick a usb thumb drive into the pi, mount that drive, and keep your backup on it. This way, if you have to write a new SD from backup, just pull the drive out, plug it into a pc/mac/linux machine to burn.
