Music Storage on USB3 M2 SSD Mobile ssd?

    Hello
Has anyone used USB3 M2 storage SSDs for music storage. They are becoming really cheap, £12 for one TB. My hdd is getting old and I feel it needs retiring to a backup unit.
What are peoples ideas on music storage with USB3 M2 storage SSD.
    Thanks

I see M2 SSD ENCLOSURES for cheap like you say, but the actual M.2 SSD to put in the enclosure is a wee bit more expensive. Are you sure you're talking about a 1TB M.2 SSD?
Main system - Rock Solid with LMS 8.3.1 on WHS 2011 - 2 Duets ( both WiFi, farthest unit gets 60% signal strength and always works since new power supply) and Squeeseslave
    Cabin system - Rock solid with LMS 8.3.1 on Win10 Pro - 1 RPi 3 Model B (WiFi) /Hifiberry DAC+ Pro/PiCorePlayer and Squeezeslave
Squeezebox Boom - "At Large" player around both home and cabin
Headphones and car - Android phone/Bluetooth w/full library on MicroSD card - PowerAmp music player app (similar to Material Skin)

              "8G/16G/32G/64G/128G/256G"
possibly simply regular USB sticks with a USB-C socket.
I would have thought not large enough capacity to be scam SSDs but who knows.

I may try one and keep a backup of music folder.
As I said my ssd could be getting tired so probably worth a try.
A 1TB usb key would do for music storage and they are half the price. Maybe I do not need an external ssd.

How much is a genuine 1TB USB stick? Cheap ones are probably fake.

                    Why stop at just 1TB?

Reviewer buys 16TB portable SSD for $70...

Music file storage gains no real benefit from high-speed media. Just stick with a 1TB spinning HD (about $35) or a name-brand SSD (about $60).

Best advice: however much storage you think you need, double it.

I thought music storage was not critical on media, but my 1gb spinning hdd is causing some problems so will keep it as spare. I found a 64gb cf card and an adapter and music plays fine to me, so I will use that until I get a usb key and not bother with anything else. May even pay more and get a good make.

Is this Storage hdd to be used with the rpi3b or your thin client. and is it going to be directly connected to the device?

your sort of right. But I find it removes the delay inherent if the disk your playing from has spun down. I've been using an SSD for music storage for years
