Where to download older versions of LMS

    Where to download older versions of LMS

    Hi. My (Duet) Controller refuses to connect to LMS 8.3.0, and I have come to understand that I need to either patch or update its firmware. And that in order to do this, I need to first connect the Controller to LMS 7.x.x.

    My problem is that I can't seem to find a Windows installer for anything older than 8.2.0 on the web. I don't know if they've all been removed or if it's just my google-fu that has abandoned me.

    If anyone has a download link handy, I would appreciate it.

          There is no older firmware than 7.x for the Controller. What makes you believe you have to update or patch it?

            I'm no longer using a duet. But I do use two different Controllers and I'm running LMS 8.3.x with "community firmware" plugin. It all works perfectly.

              I may have been unclear in my description. Under LMS - Settings - Information - Player Information:
              You seem to be using a Squeezebox with an outdated firmware, not recognizing this version of Logitech Media Server. Please consider using the Community Firmware plugin, or patching the device's firmware (get more information).​

              Unfortunately some firmwares for Squeezebox Radio, Touch, and Controller come with a bug which prevents them from connecting correctly to Logitech Media Server 8+. The version string comparison function fails to recognize 8.0.0 as more recent than 7.7.3. While the bug has been fixed years ago in version 7.8, the fixed firmware never got released to all devices. Unfortunately we're at this point not able to build a fixed firmware for distribution.

              But there's a patch available, which you can easily install on an existing Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller:
              • On the Squeezebox go to Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer, install the Patch Installer. The device will re-boot.
              • Once it's back, go to Settings/Advanced/Patch Installer and install the "Version Comparison Fix".
              • When done patching all your devices you might need to restart Logitech Media Server to make the warning go away.

              Enjoy the music on your Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller!

              Also my Controller displays a red WiFi icon, and refuses to list my music library. It seems to only want to connect to mysqueezebox.com, and when I try to connect to my local LMS it fails and asks me to retry.

              My Controller is currently on 7.8.0 r16739. In the Firmware Update menu I have two choices: Update (or rather downgrade) to 7.7.3 r16662 (mysqueezebox.com) or update (reinstall I guess) to 7.8.0 r16739 (name of my local server)

              Anyway, since my Controller refuses to connect to my local LMS, it can't download patches or any community firmware from it. So I think I need to install LMS 7 somewhere, connect my Controller to it, and then patch/update my Controller's firmware so that I can finally connect it to my real LMS which is on version 8. Did I misunderstand?

                Ah, right. The Controller suffered from that version comparison bug, too. But it should still work, despite the warning.

                What is interesting though is that you say it would not connect, yet you have that warning in the web UI? If it didn't connect, LMS would not know about it. Do you have a Radio or Touch, too?

                And did you try the factory reset on the Controller?

                  I have two Radios (they work), one Touch (works), a Boom (in storage) and the Duet receiver (in storage). Plus I have a couple of Sonoses connected via the Airplay bridge plugin v 1.1.1.

                  However, I was also running Squeezelite v1.9.7-1283 when I saw the message. Maybe that was the reason for the message?

                  I'm factory resetting my Controller now, will report back when it's done.

                    The message about the outdated firmware could be triggered by any of the Radios, Touch or Controllers. And I bet it's one (or more) of the former two. As if the Controller can't connect, it won't be seen by LMS, obviously.

                      The factory reset seems to have done the trick. Come to think of it, the problem might have been compounded by the fact that I was using the Controller to control one of the Sonos players. That might have been tempting fate a little bit too much.

                      Anyway, the Controller seems healthy now. Thanks so much for the help!
