  • Buffering issue with some 24-96 FLAC's on SB Touch

    Guys,
I have an interesting issue that has become apparent recently while trying to play a 24-96 FLAC.

I have a few 24-96 Flacs in my library, and they have all played without issue until. As afr as I can tell, this buffering issue relates to only one album. It is a 24-96 with tracks around the 3500 - 5000 kbps VBR.

I have attached a screen grab of the data stream.
The first peak is the beginning of a Fleetwood mac 24-96 track. There are no buffering issues with that track, it plays straight away with no buffering or delay.
The second BIGGER/FATTER peak is the beginning of the 10cc track that buffers and takes a couple of seconds to start playing.

In both cases, you can see that the data stream settles down and is continuous.
Once the 10cc track starts playing, there is no stuttering or buffering. It plays good.

When opening the 10cc album folder in windows or MP3Tag or FooBar, it opens/loads REALLY slowly. All other 24-96 Flacs open/load very quick, as per normal.

I know that I could just delete this album, but I am really curious as to WHY ???
I have done all the usual stuff.
Stripped out the tags and redone them
    Removed all album art etc.

I have now run out of ideas and call upon your experience.
    Thanks !

Sorry, for some reason I cannot embed an image.....

Some gigantic cover art or massive comment tags ?

Re encode them to new flac files ?

Assuming the Touch is wired 24/96 over wifi is somewhat unreliable , works mostly but not always

Touch is wired. on 1gb network to ReadyNAS Pro, running LMS 7.9 ( updated yesterday )
      Touch is running 7.8
Music library is on ReadyNAS as a share.
      There are no other libraries.
There are no other SB's connected or sync'd
There is no other activity on the network

ALL cover art is stripped out
Tags stripped out and redone ( MP3Tag ) just with basic album and artist .

All other 24/96 files play fine ( ie no buffering )
All other 24/96 files open in windows explorer fine.
All other 24/96 files load into MP3Tag or Foobar fine.

Opening or loading these particular files on my windows 7 (64bit) machine makes it "bog down" for a few seconds.
I can't see anything going on in task manager.

It just seems that THESE ( the 10cc ones ) 24/96 files are padded out with something ?? that takes a while for programs to read them.

Where / how can I look "into" the files to see why they are so slow to load. ???

mp3tag has a rigth click menu for all other tags thats not in the usual view .

And also use only FLAC(vorbis) tags strip out id3v tags from the flac files

Ok, progress ( sort of )

            I re-encoded the 10cc files thru Foobar ( flac 24 bit )

They ended up about 20 megs smaller than the originals.

The encoding finished and I got an error message box saying that "corrupt stream"

So I had a look at these new files in MP3Tag, all looked good, nothing unusual.
Loaded them into Foobar and played, all good.

So i re-encoded the already re-encoded files, and this thime there was no error message. ( file size remained the same )

Loaded them up into MP3tag, which was fast as usual.
All tags looked "normal" and art work was added.

Removed the original files from the SB music library and copied the new ones in.
            Rescan LMS (full)

Got it playing now, all good, no buffering .

Any ideas what could have been wrong ?

I was sure that I was able to display the actual bit rate on the SBT. Was one of the optionds in the "more" menu I think.

Cannot seem to find it now ( LMS 7.9 , SBT 7.8 )

If I tap the "now playing" at the top of the screen, scroll down to "more" and scoll down, I can find the "bit rate" but is from the tag, not the actual "live" bit rate.
            any ideas ?

There has never been a live bit rate for LMS for files (on some radio you can get it updated when a stream starts ,but it does not change ) , it's always from the tags or some asumed value if transcoding is used
