How does he install from those files?

Slimserver-CPAN and a whole bunch of perl files also have the same date and time stamp as slimserver.tzc - would he not need those as well? *****Edit: Sorry ignore - they have a totally different date/time, screen to eye to brain issue

    Cheers

He just needs to copy them to the same location on his system. slimserver-CPAN is the perl libraries, he should not need those. If there is a problem with those files, that is a bigger can of worms too.

Nightly archive are not saved that I see, you would have to reconstruct from github. https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/tree/public/8.2

I suppose that the easiest way is to power down pCP, take out the SD-card and put the card in a card reader, and connect the card reader to a PC. On a Windows PC the two files slimserver.tcz and slimserver.tcz.md5.txt can be copied to /mnt/mmcblk0p2/tce/optional on the SD-card using WinSCP. On a Linux PC the files can be copied directly using the Linux File manager.

I also think that it is relevant to know if sc1pzb uses the 32-bit or 64-bit version of pCP, and that Kebul provides the two files from the corresponding pCP.

NB: My assumptions are best confirmed (or corrected) by paul-

Ok so just tried this on a fresh pCP image.

LMS wil not start, ssh in and start from the command line gives me this:

            Code:
            sudo /usr/local/etc/init.d/slimserver start
            ln: perl: File exists
            /usr/local/etc/init.d/slimserver: line 111: /usr/local/slimserver/slimserver.pl: not found

but slimserver.pl seems to be there:

            [email protected]:/$ ls -l usr/local/slimserver/slimserver.pl

            lrwxrwxrwx 1 tc staff 57 Jan 31 16:01 usr/local/slimserver/slimserver.pl -> /tmp/tcloop/slimserver/usr/local/slimserver/slimserver.pl
            Obviously I'm missing something

            Cheers

If you are doing it from fresh install, there is a whole lot more. I was under the assumption we had a running LMS 8.3 or 8.4 system.

              But for a fresh install.

              1) Fresh install
              2) Install LMS from web page. (Default install is 8.3.0)
              3) Then replace slimserver.tcz with your copy of 8.2.1
              4) Reboot.

OK sorry, I'm back on it.

Whilst I've got your attention paul-

On a slightly different subject, when I was looking at cleaning up a copy of my live build, one of the things I hit that I hadn't thought about...

My card is a 16Gb and partition 2 had been resized to use the whole card, so it was just over 14Gb

Is there any way to reduce that back to a sensible size, was looking to drop it back to say 2Gb?

                Thanks

Partition shrinking is a bit of magic. There is no easy way.

The most reliable way. Write a new image of pCP, and expand the partition to the size you want. Then using a SD card reader, mount your old pCP sd card and then copy the files. Make sure you copy Each partition as there are likely changes to the boot partition too.

                    KeBul

Kev, I use PiShrink to reduce file size

I use a raspberry pi Desktop with a created bin folder at /home/pi

I dd the file image into this folder and then use PiShrink with -z to reduce the file size

It's a bit slow but seems to work

Hope this is of some help

Shrinking the second partition should also be possible with GParted on a Linux system.

But since the topic starter has a working pCP with LMS already configured, my suggestion would be to start with providing him with only the two files slimserver.tcz and slimserver.tcz.md5.txt of LMS 8.2.1. I would expect that these files are different for a 32-bit and a 64-bit pCP, so maybe sc1pzb can tell if his pCP is 32-bit or 64-bit.

OK Awesome paul-, this worked, thanks for your help, and the reply on downsizing partitions.

sc1pzb - I've sent you a PM, the files you need are available on my ftpserver now

It will give you some, but likely not from 14GB to 2GB. Anyway, with pCP being an working in RAM system copying the partitions is easy and very low risk of corruption.

slimserver.tcz is arch independent. The CPAN files are arch dependant

Many thanks to all of the forum members with the support on my downgrade LMS to 8.2.1. I will make a backup of my existing SD card and then I will apply the file replacement. I will let you know the outcome. Your help has been much appreciated and I learned more about the pCP & LMS software.

Cool, now you got the files, I've disabled access to my ftpserver, just let me know if for some reason you need to download them again, I'll enable access again for you.

Fingers crossed on the file replacement.
