  • Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0

The pCP team is happy to announce the official release of piCorePlayer 8.0.0

    Significant changes

    pCP 8.0.0
    • Kernel 5.10.42
    • RPi Firmware June 8, 2021
    • Improved support for CM4 based boards. (Still lots of driver issues with CM4 boards, so be warned)
    • Based on piCore 13.x base.
    • Includes Squeezelite 1.9.9-1386-pCP.
    • Added interface to Alsamixer in pCP web interface.
    • Bluetooth speaker controls are now passed to LMS (Play/Pause/Next/Prev)

    Notes
    • Adding wpa_supplicant.conf to the boot partition will automatically enable Wifi
    • Adding a file named "netusb" to the boot partition will automatically load/configure net-usb kernel modules.
    • mDns enabled by default. Burn your image, boot the RPi, and find it by http://pcp.local This is broadcasting the hostname of your player, so please change your hostname on the tweaks page if you have multiple pCP devices. (mDns can be disabled on the tweaks page too)

    Images
    32 Bit: piCorePlayer8.0.0
    Supports: All RPi boards

    64 Bit: piCorePlayer8.0.0-64Bit
    Supports: RPi3B and RPI4B Boards.

    Known Issues
    • No support for RT kernels. I don't see support for these kernels continuing.
    • HDMI audio is quite hit and miss. Many bumpy roads ahead for HDMI audio out.

    Recommended Upgrade path.
    • Download new image and configure from scratch.
    • Insitu_update is available, and handles most installations. However, downgrading versions will not be possible.
    • Bluetooth extensions will need to be removed before insitu update to pCP8.0.0, due to significant package changes.

Those Toppings are popular. It wasn't very nice to my initial alsamixer integration......but all those USB users should no longer need to visit a ssh session to check/set volume.

Just upgraded my three players in situ. Had to resize the SD partitions on two of them. Everything looks good so far.

Thanks for making this process so simple and intuitive! Great work!

In-situ upgrade from v7.0.0 worked a peach for me.

30 seconds of clicking OK / Next. 60 seconds for a reboot. Drama = 0.
Server: piCorePlayer 8.2.0 on Pi 4B 2GB running LMS 8.3.0, with library on local 512GB USB drive
Listening on: 2 x Squeezebox Radios 8.0.1 , and direct from the Pi using a Beringer UCA202 USB audio interface

I think I needed to do a manual reboot but apart from that it went smoothly. It might be because I was trying the pcp.local IP address for the first time and hadn't told my noscript plugin on Firefox to trust it.
