  • OK I give.
Moving to piCore from my Synology NAS LMS server.
    LINUX newb

I get it installed on the Raspberry PI, boots runs etc

I can not get it to "see" anything under the music folder, which is still on the NAS.

I think I have it set correctly under Setup Network Disk Mount

Its looking in the music folder but sees nothing?
I even copied some music files to the folder, so they aren't even buried under band/album folders & still LMS doesn't see then?

    (music/AC-DC - 01 - Hells Bells.flac vs music/flac/AC-DC/Back in Black/AC-DC - 01 - Hells Bells.flac)

Some permission issue to see in the music folder I assume?

My stroke addled brain is confused.

    Thanks!

    • SSH in to your pi, and see if you can see the files. LMS needs read access to the files.

It could be a configuration issue on the synology.

      • You could also go into LMS settings and use Browse (don't type in path). If you can browse to your music folder, LMS can access it.

        • LMS settings/browse only gives me the option for the music folder. Nothing below it. Its a permissions thing on the Synology NAS I just don't know where/how.

I also have never SSH'd anywhere.

ok, I am not clear on what you mean, but I am not familiar with all the details of your issue. If I had to guess, you have a folder structure and LMS cannot browse to some/all of the child folders. If that's the case, that's telling youi what your problem is. For example, in my picture I have:

            Music/
            FLAC
            Artist...
            MP3
            Artist...

I am able to browse to any of the Artist if I wanted to:

If you want to see if it's specific to your NAS, put an album's worth of music on a thumb drive, mount it in picore->LMS tab, then return to settings, browse, scan, and see if you have music. If you do, then you know how your NAS is supposed to appear/work.

for ssh - it starts with puTTY - https://www.putty.org/ (assuming you are using windows). I am not sure where Paul- wants you to look, but you can start by getting going with puTTY.

I don't think we can help much until we get sight of your pCP network mount settings (mine below, I use CIFS, it's easier).

Pretty sure this is a permissions problem, did you follow the link I posted in post 1461 above?

Are you using CIFS or NFS network protocol? I don't have a NAS, but was not able to connect to a Samba share on my Linux server from my Pi zero using CIFS (seems to be a known problem when running pCP 8.2.0 on a Pi Zero). Then I created an NFS share on my Linux server, and I could connect to that share from my pCP using the NFS protocol. So I suggest to use the NFS protocol.

There is a pCP Help page that describes how to connect to an NFS share on a Synology NAS:
Add a network share | piCorePlayer documentation
I have to say that this help page is not very extensive, and for setting up the NFS share on the Synology NAS and assigning permissions it relies on the Synology Help pages that kidstypike refers to. Also, in the "Setup Network Disk Mount section" on the LMS tab of piCorePlayer don't forget to click on "more" to get help on how to fill in the various fields.
The screenshot below shows how I mount an NFS share on a Linux server on my pCP. This is just an example. For connecting to an NFS share on Synology you probably need to use vers=3 in the Options field. I hope this helps.

                        • I think so?
What I have for the NFS permissions.
Have the same for the Music folder, which just above this FLAC folder.

I wonder if the Share Name that you have filled in is correct. Share name is the path of the shared folder on your NAS.
EDIT: It looks like the Share Name that you have filled in starts with /Volume1/mnt . I wonder if this is correct. Maybe it is something like /Volume1/Music/FLAC ? In post 1467 you show that you have a shared folder FLAC, and post 1464 suggests that folder FLAC is in folder Music. So I guess the path name ends with /Music/FLAC

I just wanted to say this: try to be patient with yourself! Many people have problems mounting remote shares in pCP, including smart people. I don't have any experience with your specific issues, so I have no useful advice to offer. But based on what is visible in your image, the "Share Name" field looks like it could be a problem.

Usually running latest beta LMS nightly on Raspberry Pi OS with virtual players. Occasionally using SB Radio, Boom or Classic.
