  • Could someone just point me to how and where I can manually alter the prefs-file? All other attempts were to no avail.. I really don't know how to fix this problem.
Or maybe there is some kind of supersecret setting for the attached hard disk or maybe LMS can't cope with SSDs?

Can you remind us of your issue and current status?
there are numerous reports of SSDs being used with LMS (it does not know what technology is being used) and pCP.
First step is to get it to be seen by the operating system.

No problems with SSD/pCP I've set this combination up many times. I think this is a Windows/pCP SAMBA password problem.

streifenleopard I'm assuming LMS is correctly installed, the SSD is mounted and it's possible to play music stored on it?

Thanks for getting back. I am using PCP with LMS on a RPI4 and I have moved all my files to a hard-disk that I connected to the RPI via USB. It plays music from the hard-disk without problems. I set up SAMBA and while the share is visible in my Windows 10 file explorer I cannot connect to it. I have tried to set multiple passwords and user names.
I have detailed this and uploaded screenshots here.

This might very well be a Windows 10 problem indeed. But I don't know where else to ask.

Yes that is no problem at all...

            • Is this a smbv1, smbv2 problem (see link). For example, I can't use samba to connect from my Windows 10 laptop to my rPi with attached USB. My laptop is work issued and some things are locked down. It is on smbv2, and I can't change to smbv1. I think it may need to be on smbv1 to connect to the rPi.

(I also may have all of this wrong, and I haven't played with this in a long while.....I just stop the rPi, temporarily disconnect the USB drive from the rPi, connect drive to my laptop, update my music files, plug back into the rPi. restart rPi and I'm updated). EDIT, or I can use WinSCP on the laptop to transfer file to and from the USB drive attached to the rPi. No SMB needed in that case.

Describes how to enable and disable the Server Message Block protocol (SMBv1, SMBv2, and SMBv3) in Windows client and server environments.

Thank you for your reply. I have tried switching off and on again the smbv1 component but that doesn't seem to help. I am writing this with caution as I am not totally familiar with all the aspects the linked article details.

on second thoughts I don't think so as I have identical problems while trying to connect from my W11-Notebook via Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi vs Ethernet is not related to this potential samba connection issue.

If it were me, I'd remove SAMBA, reboot the Pi, re-install SAMBA and use the password user tc, password piCore.

I've just done this on a spare Pi, no problems, it's so simple.

Sadly this didn't help. I have the same problems as before.

Maybe it would be a good idea to have PCP and LMS installed on the SDcard again. When I connected my usb drive according to the standard manual I did not seem to have paid attention to the fact that PCP will write all settings to this disc and not to the SDcard. So I have a all these files like "slimserver" etc on the usb drive.

                        • Could someone just tell me where I could manually change the settings. It should work when I download these files, edit the relevant section and upload the modified file again?

                            I'm confused

Did you install the pCP image on the USB drive or Install the image on the SD card and then move the file (s).

If the latter; then go to here on the LMS tab page and reverse the file (s) location to the SD card

Hi I followed these instructions: https://docs.picoreplayer.org/how-to/add_usb_hdd/
It didn't occur to me that anything apart from the music would be moved to the external drive.
I am reversing this right now and will post my results tomorrow

This probably won't help your problem, but some clarification. The "How To"s you are following tell you to "Move the LMS Data" as if it's a required step, but you don't have to. I keep my LMS data on my SD, because when I had it on my USB HDD, I ran into problems with power failure recovery, so I moved it back.

You can move it back and forth as a backup of sorts. Let's say you have it on the SD, it has all of your favorites, plugins, podcasts, and you want to redo your SD card. Move it to the HDD, reformat and burn the new SD (which creates a default LMS void of all your customization), then move it from the HDD to the SD.
