Since I cannot connect to LMS, I'll have to figure out where the log file is . I'll look....

Ok, I didn't know where to look for the log file in the LMS data, so I just burned a SD of the backup that I made of 7 before the failed update. I tested the new image, did as ronnie said, then did the update again and all is fine. The only thing different is in the first (failed) update there were some file checks during download that were checked, failed, and repeated. I did not see this with the second successful update.

The only other difference is I had to use the mirror repo for the second update, as the main was not available

This post is for completeness. I restored 7 with a backup, and the update to 8 went fine. I put the SD that had failed back in, and here are the logs:

Delete the file /usr/local/slimserver/Cache/cache.db and start from scratch.

The cache.db file was 0 bytes, so I must have mangled it somehow. I deleted it, and restarted pcp, but it didn't help.

Again, for information only, I'll just go back to the SD that I didn't botch!

my SD has 3 partitions, with my LMS data being on the third. I have two mounts - LMS data and my usb hard drive. I must have made my full sd backup in 7 to the SD. I then copied to my PC to be able to burn another one. So The backup image (used to rebuild) did not contain the backup image file, but the SD did. That must have crashed it.

But I can't confirm it because my PC does not recognize the partitions other than boot, and via samba, there are no file size details. I am not savy on how to work around that.

Which brings up another point for paul- , We had discussed this before, but there is no way to delete the backups via samba due to permissions. I assume I can connect the USB drive to the PC and delete it then, but I haven't tried. It would be nice to be able to do regular backups, and be able to delete the old. Just a wish list item.

Jim, maybe WinSCP will let you delete the backup (it's how I copy the back up file)

Is there a guide to the many options in the Squeezelite ALSA settings/mixer page? I've looked around for generic Linux descriptions but none seem to contain the many different ones like "Auto Mute Time" (Left & Right).

The symptom is that I'm finding that my RPi4 with Dac2Pro XLR exhibits strange static type clicks whenever I change volume or do any transport operations e.g. play or pause.
Play results in a 'crunchy' click (almost like a needle drop sound) with Pause exhibiting a shorter single click. The clicks are subtle. Playback otherwise seems to be fine with no other background noises.
Volume changes, using the slider, sound like an old grubby pot or dirty wipers, with subtle static clicks occurring during the change.
This happens with mp3 and flac files of varying bitrates and when using PCP as a BT speaker. It's a bit like the old DBX NR system (anyone?) with the signal pumping and gating at track transitions.
It affects HifiberryOs too so it's not a PCP-specific issue.
My ALSA setting is the default buffer 80, period 4, sample format = blank, use mmap=1, open ALSA twice = blank, though I have no idea what the audible impact is of changing those values.

Thanks Paul, One option that would be fine for me (if it's easier to implement) would be the ability to overwrite the previous backup. Currently the backup filenames are date stamped. Perhaps there could be an option to write a generic backup file and be able to overwrite it.

From a use case perspective, the personal configuration options are getting extensive (a good thing) for both pcp and LMS, so backup is becoming even more important for both.

I believe we removed it years ago.

It was slowing things down and until the time was synced it would show the wrong time.

I'm still looking for a report or log that shows the time!!

Someone was asking about where they could find the date/time from the piCorePlayer GUI. (Sorry can't find the post). Some of the Diagnostic logs have a header with the date displayed.

For future versions of piCorePlayer, I have added the date to the "Raspberry Pi page/RPI diag log" found under [Diagnostics].

Also, I added an option in [Tweaks] to turn on the old dynamic footer so each page will show the date/time again.
