    Thank you for the screenshot!
Yes I will shutdown properly, seems reasonable.
But I think normal USB-stick would not improve system performance in comparison to a SD card?

Are there any experiences, installing picoreplayer OS including lms server on a bootable USB-SSD, while leaving away a sd-card entirely, as it seems other rpi-os can be installed on usb-ssd while using rpi 4 without sd-card?

I am using three different devices for my piCoreplayer with LMS on a Pi 4.
      1. SD card with piCoreplayer itself to boot
      2. Fast USB stick (Samsung Fit+) with the LMS database alone
      3. SSD with the music. This drive is in HFS+ format as it is a 1:1 copy from my Mac and it is mounted read-only.

Booting will not really be faster with an USB stick and the times you are booting are uninteresting.
While running in „normal Mode“ where someone hears the music it is also not relevant that the music is on a SSD I think.
Where it makes a real difference is scanning the music library. Therfore the LMS database and the music needs to be on a fast drive.
Before I used a slower USB stick for the LMS database and the time scanning was twice as long.

The boot-media will not make any difference when running piCorePlayer as it is only used at boot time and when changing things in the configuration.

Oh thank you for this usefull information!
Then I will stay the with normal sd-card I and plan to use a fast USB Stick for music and LMS-database.
As I plan to use Kodi media center on the same device, maybe I have to change the sd-card to boot into libreelec if I want to watch movies in the evening.
Maybe I use a switchable sd-card adapter to switch fast between 2 booting os on two different SD cards.

        For example:

This dual SD adapter lets you use two SD cards in the Raspberry Pi, so you can switch between 2 different operating systems without having to change the SD card. The extended SD contact also all [...]

You might be better off installing LMS , Squeezelite and Kodi on the same OS and not using piCorePlayer at all.

Yes I thought about that too.
I like that picoreplayer and librelec interface is really user friendly and easy for beginners...

OSMC is another option for Kodi and can also run LMS and Squeezelite. Not as easy as piCorePlayer but it would be similar to installing on Raspberry Pi OS.

Another easier option is Max2Play. I am pretty sure Kodi is available as a free plugin.

As LMS is a server for music in the whole house, why not use a server for video too?
I personally use Plex for this directly on my NAS.
Also there are Jellyfin and Emby.

So all you need is a client (Apple TV, Smartphone, Tablet, etc.) for these servers anywhere where you want to watch the videos.

The good thing of these servers is, that you only have to edit the metadata once on the server. Also you have thing like „seen/unseen/last position“ centrally managed. The clients only show these states and can be „stupid“ devices. Plex also can transcode material on the server side, if e.g. the client is not able to display 4k material directly.

Also with Plex (don’t know for Jellyfin/Emby) it is possible to stream your videos from home regardless where you are, if you have internet there. You connect to your server at home and you can stream (yes this is encrypted).

I think user management ist only availabe in the paid Plex version, but this is great. Every user has it‘s own status
for videos „seen/unseen“ etc. And you can set that eg. children can only see videos rated for under 12.

Thanks! I found the option to save, on the actual screen interface, under settings->piCorePlayer, which I guess is what you were pointing me at.

However there are no options there to deal with screen off.
The options are under the normal screen settings, and what is happening, is that if someone presses the power off button on the screen, it doesn't come back on when you press again on the screen.

One time, after tapping madly on the screen for 20 seconds, it came on and started playing, as though I had been selecting options on the blank screen, but I have not been able to repeat this.

As I have it set to blank screen after 30 seconds when not playing, and this setting is now hopefully saved for reboots, is there a way to remove the power button?

I tested it with my Pi 3B+ and original Raspberry Pi 7“ screen.

I set it to blank screen, switch it off (Button in the upper left). the sceen goes blank. When I now touch on the screen, the Button in the upper left can be seen and be touched to switch the screen on. So you have to do two touches on the screen to go back on.
If I set to switch the screen off (the option above blank screen), the screen will be completeley switched off, but after the first touch, I can see the button in the upper left and switch it on again.

If set to blank screen, the power button is not visible but is still there in the same position, and still functions.

Have you tried enabling the -C option in Squeezelite settings ?

I can see similar problems early in this thread with people who only run LMS and not Squeezelite (which is my setup as well). But the suggested download of cdrom-5.4.83-pcpCore-v7.tcz does nothing for me. I still get error on all downloads:

If it is of any relevance, I did an insitu upgrade from 6.0.0 to 7.0.0. just before attempting this. There were issues first, but thanks to this hint: error in insitu install script I was ablet to fix the script and it went succesfully through.
Anyone else experiencing this? Or ideas how to overcome it?
