    • I mentioned this in another post. After setting alsa volume control with the -V option I find that LMS doesn't control the volume after a period of time. Restarting Squeezelite restores volume control. I first noticed it yesterday and again today. What could cause that?

OK LMS stops controlling alsa volume after the E30 DAC has been in standby mode. After coming out of standby mode I can play music but cannot control alsa volume until I restart Squeezelite.

I think you can take a look at this project: https://docs.picoreplayer.org/projec...-from-usb-dac/

There has to be also a thread inside the forum, but I didn‘t found it.

Are you using the USB reset scripts? Are you sure the restarted instance of squeezelite is getting the -V option?

I don't know what the USB reset scripts are. The restarted instance has the -V option as I can control the alsa volume.

I wasn't sure if that applied to this issue. Everything works except alsa volume control so Squeezelite sees the DAC as the output device.

                • So I have been using LMS for nearly 20 years now, and then went to Joggler devices to replace old Logitech Touch devices, and recently tried Volumio as a "modern" replacement.
However, it's multi-room doesn't work, and spotify is broken... but then my jogglers all stopped working (contact me if you want one - I have 5 I think)...

So I went to Pi4 with PCP and pi4 displays, and it's pretty good, however one issue. I want the screen to go blank when not playing (something I could never get working with the joggler without hitting the power icon).
And this does work, I have screen saver set to "screen off", when not playing.

However, when I come back more than about 12 hours later, the whole thing is not responsive and requires a reboot, and as this is PoE, that means going to my switch in basement.
Also, the screensaver settings are all lost, so I have to set them all over again...

I guess I am missing something in my setup, so any pointers, or tips on this scenario would be gratefully appreciated!

                  Thanks, and happy new year!

                  • For the settings on reboot … there is a menu item in the pCP specific part of Jivelite to make a backup - because pCP avoids writing to storage unless told to do it.

Look at the piCorePlayer applet in Jivelite, along with backup, there is an option specifically to deal with the screen off screensaver.

The AMP uses GPIO23 (in addition to the i2c and i2s pins) so make sure you are not using that anywhere else.

If that doesn't yield any result, then I would load HifiBerryOS and see what happens.
Loaded HifiBerryOS and couldn't get any sound either - hardware issue with the board.

Replacement board arrived and now up and running with piCorePlayer.

                        I did the following:
                        1. configure pcp audio output device as "Hifiberry DAC+ (and Pro, AMP2)" and saved - squeezelite doesn't load
                        2. edit config.txt replace existing dtoverlay line with "dtoverlay=hifiberry-amp3"
                        3. boot up and selected squeezelite output setting "hw:CARD=sndrpimerusamp,DEV=0"

                        Thank you!

                        • Hi,
I want to try to install picoreplayer on Rpi 4. I read that after booting, the software ist running in RAM and one can switch off the pi without the need to shutdown first. Does this also apply with LMS, when installed from inside picoreplayer?

                          Greetings knorst

You can but it is not recommended.
My guess is that most people leave it on all of the time.
LMS writes things to its database and that can be too big to store in RAM ... and if it was only read in on startup and never written back then you would lose your list of locally held tracks etc (and more) when restarting without saving first.
However, if you take a bit of care - e.g. do not cut the power while a scan is running then you will probably be OK ... but make a backup to different media if you do not want to reconstruct everything when the problem happens.

currently i'm questioning myself, if it would be better forsystem- performance to install LMS or picoreplayer on usb-SSD-drive?

You can install piCorePlayer & LMS on the SD card, and move LMS Cache to an attached USB drive. (mine below).

But whatever you do, you still need to shut down safely using pCP Main page > Shutdown.
