    reboot

If anything goes wrong you have your existing version left as squeezelite.old

Worked perfectly now my VAMPbox sounds much better and responds better. Thanks so much.

    Squeezelite Update for VAMP 0.4

    Hi,

I am successfully running the 0.4 Vamp (versus 0.6) because it has the squeezeplug installer so easier to install samba and LMS but wondering what is the easiest way to update squeezelite to the latest version. Seems to work well so far.
    Thanks

Thanks for posting this! My VAMP is working well, but it's good to have all the info in one place again.

I just finished putting my VAMP together. I'm running it with wired networking and using a Hifimediy USB dac for audio output. It works well and sounds great. The next step will be trying to use wifi. I found the following thread on the Vortextbox forum:

I need to track down a usb dongle with one of the chipsets that has worked. Right now I'm considering this these:

Buy ENCORE ENUWI-1XN42 Wireless N150 Adapter, 2dBi IEEE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Up to 150Mbps Wireless Data Rates with fast shipping and top-rated customer service. Once you know, you Newegg!

    making it work on osx

I want to thank agillis and anyone else involved in getting this solution going.

I have successfully built it and it's a perfect add-on solution if you primarily use ipeng for your remote.

I don't know if it's been covered in previous posts in this thread but when using the vamp build instructions with a mac based system there are extra steps to make it all work.

here's a link to a macosx hint page with the key extra step.

It's probably overpriced compared with other options - no wifi, no bluetooth, no analog audio out.

I saw in another thread here (the EDO one maybe?) that there is a driver available for the HiFace 1 on Linux now and somebody compiled it for the Touch.

If that's the case then this could possibly work on the Off-Ramp and other interfaces/DACs using that chipset. That would be good news.

It's a real shame that the Empirical Audio Off Ramp 5 uses the HiFace (1) chipset for USB audio input, which is no good for Linux, as this would be pretty much perfect otherwise as it also offers LVDS I2S output which is really hard to find on other interfaces.
This apparently will change in upcoming versions of the Off Ramp. Steve has said at some point he will implement Linux capability

    I picked up a POGO-E02 from here for $16:

It is listed as a POGO-P21 on the site, but the one I received is labelled as an E02. YMMV.

I control my VAMP from either my iPad or my PC. I have no need for a local display and I hadn't used the one on my now dead Squeezebox for a LONG time.

I haven't been following the custom hardware solution being dreamt up in the other thread so I don't know their current plans (are they calling it a wand board now?). I know the early discussions had people lobbying for a display and IR interface but if they've done away with those then it strikes me as a bit more pointless.
