Help connecting PiCore LMS to SB Touch

Just changed internet providers from Xfinity to Frontier. I plugged my Raspberry PI into the extender they gave me. Set SB Touch to new network as well as iPhone running iPeng.

my Touch will search for PiCore LMS but will not connect. IPeng on phone also not seeing PiCore LMS.

I did an IP scan with my laptop and it does show the PiCore LMS. I tried connecting to the RPi via Edge on my laptop but it keeps trying to search internet instead of directly connecting.

    HELP!!!

Did you give the Pi a fixed IP? Do you remember what it is or perhaps you bookmarked it in a browser.?

what may have happened is that the new router is using a different sub net to the old one and that’s why you can’t see the Pi anymore

    Example

    new = 192.168.0.x
    old = 192.168.1.x

if this is the case it’s a simple fix once you you know the IP address

When I do an IP scan via laptop it looks like same IP 10.0.0.123

What about the IPs of the phone and the Touch? Are they on the same subnet?

What is the router’s IP? If it isn’t 10.0.0.1 or 10.0.0.254 then my theory is correct.

so I’m going to assume it’s something like 192.168.1.1

            youll need a PC
go to network adapter settings on pC
change IPv4 from “get IP address automatically” set a fixed ip as 10.0.0.122, net mask 255.255.255.0 gateway. 10.0.0.123

now try to connect to http://10.0.0.123
you should find the piCorePlayer web gui
switch off fixed ip on Pi and reboot

On pC change back to automatic ip IMPORTANT

            go to http://pCp.local
            you should find piCorePlayer again
switch on fixed ip again but to match the router address

            lns should be at http://pCp.local:9000

Uh oh. Bad news for shacky73! I'll try to help, but may be out of my depth. Maybe I can offer encouragement while you're restfully disconnected.

I few things to try or think about.

                  1. Restart raspberry Pi which I assume is running LMS, and then restart the Touch. Have it search for LMS on the Pi. (Select My Music to get the Touch to look for the LMS on the Pi.)
                  2. Can the Touch connect to MySB.com?
                  3. Make sure the Touch is not trying to run the internal tiny LMS that the Touch contains. Updating to the Community Firmware will remove the internal tiny LMS.
                  4. Log into the router and find the Raspberry Pi's IP address. Can you ping the raspberry pi's IP address and get a response.
                  5. Did you set up a static IP address within PiCore (pCP) software on the Pi? If yes, remove the static IP settings in pCP. Reboot the pCP and the router to let router assign IP addresses. Later, using the router's settings then reserve IP address for the pCP and Touch. I think that is a better way to have a static IP address.
                  6. Can you connect to the pCP using http://pCp.local or whatever name you gave the pCP. Going to diagnostics and then rapeberry pi will also give you its IP address. Is it the same that the router has assigned?

                  7. Wait until d6jd (in the UK) awakens and can help you because he is much more tech savvy!
                  8. Go grab a beer or beverage of your choice, and then come back because maybe some time away helps. When you come back the item that you overlooked becomes noticeable.

I hope some of this helps.

                  Paul

I forgot to mention. When I was using a Fontier supplied router a two years ago, the router's IP address was the format of 192.168.xx.xx, not 10.0.xx.xx. Therefore, anything assigned to the same router should have the same first three set of digits, ie 192.168.0.

It’s been so long since I’ve connect laptop to pCP via IP address I can’t remember best way. It’s giving me that 10.0.0.123 via laptop scan. I like idea of removing static IP and let Frontier start over.

but that still doesn’t explain why I can’t connect Touch to LMS running on laptop. iPeng shows Touch and laptop server but they won’t connect.

I assume you can change some settings in your new router.. If that's correct, look through the available settings for something like "network isolation." That could be preventing your devices from speaking to each other. If you find something that almost matches that, but not quite, ask for confirmation here before doing anything, and hope that someone more knowledgeable than me can answer!

Following up on my previous post, which offered one possible explanation:

I am not knowledgeable about networking, not even slightly. And I welcome corrections from anyone who is knowledgeable, if anything I say is wrong or utter nonsense. But I think I'm safe when I say that just because a device can determine that another device is on a network, that does not necessarily mean that the two devices can communicate.

I think it's possible the cause of the problem is somewhere in the configuration of your new networking gear. Frankly, I don't know if I know enough to help. If nothing else, maybe I can help you gather information you will need when more knowledgeable forum members encounter this thread.

I just went back and read your first post and noticed this:

Just changed internet providers from Xfinity to Frontier. I plugged my Raspberry PI into the extender they gave me. Set SB Touch to new network as well as iPhone running iPeng.
It sounds to me like you have a new router AND a new wifi extender, and the Pi is connected to the extender with an ethernet cable. Is that correct? The Touch and Iphone are on the wifi network? And the laptop as well?

If that's correct, you may need to adjust settings in the router and the extender. Do you have manuals? If not, you will probably need to examine both devices. Each should have a label that identifies it by manufacturer and model number, which may be enough to find online manuals. The label may also provide a url you can use to the device's built-in web interface to change settings, and possibly a username and password.

If you can report the make and model of those devices, that could be helpful. No need to share the default username and password.

One more question: is it possible for you to connect the Pi running pCP to a monitor and a usb keyboard? If the problem is in the configuration of pCP, that could be a big help.

On the piCore Player - Settings>Advanced>Information>(picorename). should give you the IP address of the piCore player. There is a similar setting on the SB Touch. This should help you to navigate to the URL on your laptop.
Can you look at the settings on your laptop to display it's IP address? Is your laptop connected to the internet?

                              This is all correct:
