Dear crowd,
my more than 15 year old SB3 (Classic) has worked like a charm, until lately when all of a sudden it developed some problems. A year after having upgraded to LMS 8.x it started acting up and randomly stops audio playback (sometimes it plays for 30 mins, sometimes only for 1 min). I thought it was dying, but here is the strange thing:
- when I synchronize it with an instance of squeezelite on my Mac -> everything works like a charm
I am really baffled by that prob and would appreciate any hints.
I can rule out networking probs (wired - 1Gbps LAN - client stays online and is pingable with a latency of 0.8ms max), I have exchanged the cables as well for good measure
LMS is running on my Synology NAS (and has before) in a docker (currently 8.4.0)
The problems do not coincide with an LMS upgrade and are not rectified by it
Could this be a hardware problem ? (power supply ?)
Could it have something to do with the control traffic ? (since it contiunes playing when synchronized)
Is the box finally dying ? (capacitors ?)
...
<edit>
I enabled debug level logging on the client status and found:
Slim::Control::Request::notifyFromArray (839) (client disconnect)
as an additional info/hint - why the client would disconnect is beyond me, especially since the server thinks it is still playing (!) - visible in the WebGUI of the server

What content are you trying to play? If it's online content you might
want to enforce Proxied Streaming (Settings/Player/Audio/Streaming
Method or the like).
Michael
"It doesn't work - what shall I do?" - "Please check your server.log and/or scanner.log file!"
(LMS: Settings/Information)

Thx for the swift reply (appreciated)
I stream local mp3/flac content directly from the NAS, I tried proxied streaming already -> no dice.

Does the synced player support flac, too? Could transcoding be involved?
Yep it does. As far as I can see the prob is independent from the media format as it happens even with Internet radio usage.
I have ordered a (used) SB Touch and a new power supply to see/check whether that could be the problem (and it never hurts to have another power supply or another SB ) ...
Update: It looks like a hardware prob of the SB3 (Classic) as the phenomenon does not happen on the Touch I have replaced it with. Changing the power supply on the SB3 did also not change the behaviour of the box - so I fear it is just dead/dying. If I find anything I´ll update this post
