  • Adding a Wiim Mini to your LMS system

A very interesting, low cost device, which supports bit-perfect rendering from LMS up to 24/192 via UPnP. No Squeezelite support just yet, but perhaps they can be convinced to add it.

Hi, I bought a WiiM Mini Streamer for 99EUR. Connected by optical TOSLINK to an optical splitter. One output of the splitter goes into a Topping E30 DAC and then to a headphone amp. The other output of the splitter goes into an optical input of my AV receiver. There has been a firmware update...

It adds access to Amazon Music, including via Alexa voice control, in HD/UHD (Amazon's terms for CD and "Hi-Rez"), currently in beta testing. It also provides native Tidal app support via Tidal Connect, and native Spotify app support via Spotify Connect. Qobuz & Tidal can be used via LMS or via the WiiM Home app. The built-in DAC is nothing to write home about, but the optical port supports bit-perfect output up to 24/192.

No RPi's needed, but for the DIY crowd, it's easy to add a display, via their UPnP interface using a RPi Zero. Possibly the first DIY project to display the current track on Amazon Music.

With RPi currently unobtainium and future direction of PolyVection murky, another native player would be welcome.

This looks pretty great and might be a handy way for me to convert an outdoor powered speaker into a wi-fi speaker.

Inside the house I run LMS but also have Airplay 2.

What would be the best way to get the WIIM to play music in sync with my indoor system?

Great idea. I have added my support for native squeezelite to be added to the streamer.

According to the WiiM forum thread above, the latest Mini firmware has enhanced its support of LMS. It's not clear whether they are still relying on the "UPnP/DLNA bridge". Can a Mini owner test this and report results? Thanks.

I have just bought and setup a Wiim Mini. There is no native Squeezelite support yet, it is still relying on UPNP Bridge for running, and I am getting intermittent dropouts. I have posted this on the WiiM forum.

Potentially it is something else as the device is new.

I've never had a dropout running this same way. I use 5GHz band, with mesh router in same room, and never go over 16/44.1, so YMMV, but doubt the dropouts are caused by the WiiM.

Yeah I have found that the issue is that the Wiim was connecting to a remote node in my mesh network. It was tricky to resolve, as the Wiim doesn't have an option to reset the Network, even following a reboot. So I had to turn the Mesh off and connect the Wiim to a different wifi network by resetting it - the wifi settings are not cleared by a factory reset so this took me a while to figure out.

I also just found out that my TP Link deco have a firmware update that would allow me to map devices to specific nodes in the Mesh network, which would probably have been easier to do if I had upgraded earlier.

Anyway it doesn't appear to be a Wiim issue.

I see they have a new higher-end product in the works...

Here's a rendering of what WiiM Pro will look like. We're expecting WiiM Pro to launch by early December and will be sold through Amazon.com. More info will be on our website www.wiimhome.com. Please stay tuned! In the meantime, we'd love to hear your thoughts on what you think of WiiM Pro 🤔...

I wonder if LMS (squeezelite) is on the road map for the Pro. I didn’t see a price either.

Wiim have a new forum at a new site, and the discussion about adding LMS/Squeezelite capability to its Mini (and forthcoming Pro) has been given a new thread there. Would be good if we added some more posts there to encourage Wiim to get on with this!

Moving this here from the thread at the old forum (https://faq-mini.wiimhome.com/support/discussions/topics/72000741459?page=1) I quote cc, who started that: > There was a suggestion from Wiim Support that LMS was already useable via UPnP/DLNA, which is true, but using that is quite techy and...

I've also added this to the 3rd Party Hardware section here, which might be more relevant.

Do you know what the device OS is built on? Linux, Android etc

If it’s Linux then shoehorning Squeezelite into it shouldn’t be that difficult but Android is a different matter.
