OK, I won't rock the boat but, while I love this forum and am grateful for the informed advice provided by the very knowledgeable members, I think the software is far from perfect. It may just be my incompetence but I find the search function to be near useless, I can never find stuff. If others have the same problem, this must result in a lot of inefficiency in the form of repeated queries that have been answered previously. I recognise that nothing is likely to happen to improve this but, if ever we need to re-invent ourselves, that is worth bearing in mind.

I use google with a "site:forums.slimdevices.com" followed by the search terms.

Okay, let's all sit still in this boat and have a quiet conversation about the future of this forum. If it is so that the days of this forum are counted because sooner or later Logitech will shut it down, wouldn't it make sense to move it to an independent server before that happens?

To stay in the picture: if the boat is slowly sinking, yes, you surely don't want to rock it, but you also don't want to sit completely still and do nothing at, do you?

I'm quite happy with this software. It's familiar and comfortable and seems to work well for the people who use it. The search is useless though but as mentioned we can use Google.

Logitech are highly unlikely to just to pull the plug on this (I think Mr Herger might have something to say if they consider that!). They would give notice. In which case, that would be the time to think about migration.
Take care of your tongue. It is in a wet place and can easily slip.

Lounge: Naim NDX with Touch as controller, Naim NAP 180, NAC 82, NAPSC, HiCap, Shahinian Arc speakers
              Kitchen/outside: Chromecast audio, Azatom iBigBoy 2 (500W)
And... SB+, radios & tons of Chromecasts... all run from LMS and controlled via Material Skin on any nearby device and a couple of Touchs.

It makes perfect sense. But somebody would have to do it. And somebody
would have to come up for the cost, hosting, maintenance. And that
somebody would have to make sure he is/they are more likely to be around
in a few years from now than the current "sponsor".

Let's find some more solutions to some more problems that don't exist.

If it ever comes to that, I'd be happy to pitch in. I've been a reseller for a major webhost since 2003, and have archived many of my favorite websites/brands that would otherwise be lost to time. I have plenty of web resources I could donate that I expect to keep for the long haul. Seriously, if you hear whispers that anything might happen, I would be happy to do a migration. (And I'd be happy to keep it to vBulletin if possible)

Making streaming music in my home a full time job!

                      Migration

The main issues would be Notice and Ownership, to get hold of the Content before losing access to it. I am a moderator on a forum and we got shut down by our Host without notice, and had to fight to at least copy off our content. Then, we also needed to migrate from a "discus" platform that had been abandoned years ago (making it quite affordable to keep running, however). We're on XenForo, now. We still have images to find and reattach to topics. We're about 4 months into "migration." Last time I checked, we had over 6,000 members from around the world.

Was reminded of this thread now when the updated vBulletin Forum software started sending tons of notification emails to my inbox. I'm still hoping that the migration to discourse might happen. At this point (five years after the thread started), I'd assume that many (perhaps even a majority) of the forum users have used discourse based forums. They are everywhere and there's a reason why so many forums are using it... I do understand, of course, that "someone has to do the work" is the main issue here. I'm glad LMS is still actively maintained and I'm grateful for that, so having as better forum would just be the icing on the cake :-)
