  • . . . and then a question!

My apologies if this is a dumb question, I have had a good search but not been able to answer it.

My Transporter is currently running firmware 81 and is connected to a Vortexbox running Squeezebox Server 7.5.2 - r31599

I am experiencing regular "AC overload" errors (that are a real pain in the a$$!)

I note there is a fix for this in firmware 84, but how do I install this?

I have been able to find the firmware file here:

But what do I do with it?

Download the transporter_84.bin file and place it in the server/Firmware directory on your server.

There should also be a transporter.version file on that page, but I'm afraid it's missing. You can just edit the existing one on your server, changing the version to 84, so it looks like this:

    Code:
    # Transporter firmware
    #
    # from to
    # from1..from2 to

    1..84 84

    # future versions may be downgraded to this one
    * 84
    Then restart Squeezebox Server.

You can also install the nightly build and get firmware 85.

Thanks for this, although I must confess to being baffled!

I did not mention that I am using a Mac, SB resides on a dedicated PC running Vortexbox that 'contains' the SB application.

I cannot find a Firmware directory on the server!

Trying a different tack I ran SB on my Mac and connected the Transporter to it. The latest Mac version of SB contains version 80 of the firmware and it reset my Transporter accordingly! Similarly though, I could not find any firmware directory on the Mac (in application support and preferences etc)

I have now restarted everything from the Vortexbox and restored the version 81 firmware.

It seems my only option is to wait for SB 7.6 to be stable and included in a Vortexbox update?

I could be wrong, but I think even on the Vortexbox it should be a directory immediately below the installation directory of the server program.

try searching the machine running sbs for a file called transporter.version ...
You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...

              Hooray

              Thank you all.

Following some careful searching in my Vortexbox (Linux commands are not my strong point!) I found the firmware files.

I was then able to install the firmware version 84 and edit the firmware.version file.

It seems to all be working OK now. Let's hope I have seen the last of the annoying AC Overload errors

              Thanks again!

Oh, one more thing . .

Now I have firmware 84 up and running can I control the AK4396 rolloff filter slope or do I also need to be running SBS 7.6?

                If I can, how?

I am a dyed in the wool audiophile so I am curious to hear any difference.

                Thanks again

In the web interface look under Settings > Player/Transporter > Audio. You may see a setting for 'DAC Roll-off Filter' just below 'Word Clock On S/PDIF Outputs'. If not, then it's only available in 7.6.

I just looked on my 7.5.2 server and no, the DAC filter setting isn't available.

I don't use VB, but my guess is that since they distribute their own SBS RPM, it doesn't ship with any FW to comply with Logitech's license. So you should find downloaded firmware in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/updates only.

Do ip3k player firmware updates work if they're placed in the cache/updates folder?

Hmm, I've never tested it. I thought that was how it worked but I may be wrong.

The firmware files live here on a Vortexbox:

                              ./usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Firmware

Vortexbox 1.6 (Fedora 14) (Highly recommended!)
