  • Transporter WiFi problems - looking for a replacement PSU

    Hi there,
As of this morning, my Transporter has been dropping off of the network (relays clicking as it does so), then reconnecting.
It's continuing to do this even when it's in standby.
I fear it's the PSU dying (I've never replaced it), as it's one of the symptoms listed here: https://joes-tech-blog.blogspot.com/...epair.html?m=1
As such, I thought I'd pick up a replacement PSU, but it looks like they're now discontinued: https://www.rapidonline.com/electric...c-2-3a-85-2251
    So my question is two-fold:
    A) do you agree that this is likely a failing PSU?
    B) do you know if there are any alternative PSUs that can replace the discontinued model, and where to find one?
    Many thanks.

I recall when my PSU started failing, I'd get spontaneous restarting of the Transporter along with the clicking noise. New PSU fixed this. (my Transporter is on ethernet). No idea about where to get PSU. Maybe post on JoeMuc2009 thread or message him. He is the guru of squeezebox repairs!

      There's a 5V 4A PSU:
      TT Electronics - PD-20-5 - TT Electronics PD-20-5 Open Frame Power Supply 5V DC 4A 20W -

These 20W open frame power supplies have been specially designed to

The connectors look the same as the 2.3A one. It's physically a bit bigger, but if I am remembering correctly from the days when I had a TP, there's a fair amount of space around that area.
Until recently: Transporter -> ATC SCM100A, now sold :-(
      House move forced change to: piCorePlayer(RPi2/HiFiBerry DIGI2 Pro) -> Meridian 218 -> Meridian M6

Well, the one cliveb suggests is actually bigger in both dimensions. These measurements represent the square between the centers of the four corner screw holes, both PCBs are actually a bit larger still of course:

        PD-20-5: 81.5mm x 43.5mm
        SW3386: 49.0mm x 36.8mm

So you won't be able to use more than one of the four screw posts in the Transporter bottom case, and will have to remove the remaining three (or two in later units which only have three screw posts) as they would short traces on the PCB.
The height is no concern, there is enough clearance so the PD-20-5 will fit height-wise (20mm vs. 17.5mm in the SW3386), even if mounted on standoffs.
Connectors seem to be a fit as far as I can see from the data sheets.

Be aware though that you can repair your original SW3386 PSU by just replacing two or three capacitors which are dirt cheap. It is in my blog article, just like the solution for an alternative PSU, showing how an encapsulated Traco Power unit can be connected.

          Thanks all for your input!
I actually think it was a weird WiFi issue. I started having troubles with another of my SBs shortly after posting this. I did a WiFi/network reboot and a power cycle of the SBs, and everything seems to be working again.
If it starts happening again, I'll see if I can make the time to follow JoeMuc2009 's instructions to replace the old caps.
