      !
      Taking the highest gain number as album gain seems like a good alternative indeed.
      cheers

        Actually, it will be the lowest track gain number.

          I think you quoted the wrong post, Michael. You're referring to the album "goodies" here, right?

            • Hello,

              Today I got the notification in LMS that there is a new Qobuz plugin version v2.13.0 available (together with Music and Artist Information v1.9.0).

              I tried to update both plugins by checking the boxes in LMS settings/plugins and pressing the "apply" button.

              After the LMS restart nothing happens - the plugins are not updated and the available plugin updates message remains.

              I repeated the update procedure several times without any luck.

              Here is my LMS info:

              Logitech Media Server Version: 8.3.1 - 1676361197 @ Fri 17 Feb 2023 06:37:09 AM CET
              .....
              Operating system: Debian - EN - utf8
              Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux
              Perl Version: 5.22.1 - x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi
              Audio::Scan: 0.95
              IO::Socket::SSL: 2.024
              Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.58 (sqlite 3.22.0)

              The versions that are working are: Qobuz v2.11.0 and Music and Artist Information v1.8.2

              I'm using the older version of Ubuntu - 16.04.7 LTS, because of the custom rt kernel.

              Do I have to update some libraries or something for the latest versions of plugins to work?

                What does it mean?

                Is there some temporary problem with the repository and everything is OK on my side?

                At the same time, I had no problems updating Material Skin to v3.2.2

                • When I try updating those plugins in the Material Skin interface,
                  I get this message with a blinking cloud icon and the process of downloading just hangs forever:

                  • Try to upgrade IO::Socket::SSL. 2.024 is likely too old to deal with up to date certs.

                      Thanks!

                      I just have tried to upgrade it, but I got the message that I have the newest version:

                      snake@snake:~$ sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade libio-socket-ssl-perl
                      [sudo] password for snake:

                      Building dependency tree
                      Reading state information... Done
                      libio-socket-ssl-perl is already the newest version (2.024-1).

                      snake@snake:~$

                      On the https://metacpan.org/dist/IO-Socket-SSL page, I can see that the latest version is 2.083

                      How can I force the upgrade to it?

                      Here is the detailed info about the installed package:

                      Description: Perl module implementing object oriented interface to SSL sockets
                      This module is a true drop-in replacement for IO::Socket::INET that
                      uses SSL to encrypt data before it is transferred to a remote server
                      or client. IO::Socket::SSL supports all the extra features that one
                      needs to write a full-featured SSL client or server application:
                      multiple SSL contexts, cipher selection, certificate verification, and
                      SSL version selection. As an extra bonus, it works perfectly with
                      mod_perl.
                      .
                      IO::Socket::SSL uses IPv6 if libio-socket-ip-perl (>= 0.20) or
                      libio-socket-inet6-perl is installed.

                      • Maybe a 7 year old Ubuntu is just too old. Is there any good reason why you stick around with a vulnerable system?

                        • ...I forgot to mention that I have almost zero knowledge about Linux!

                          I'm only good at Googling for the solutions and copy pasting the commands.

                            This is the best sounding version of Ubuntu I tried, I guess due to the custom rt kernel it uses.
                            I have tried the newer versions but they just don't sound as good as this one.

                            This is a tweaked headless PC install without GUI, with all the unnecessary functions removed.

                            I would like to hang on it as long as possible, since it is all about the sound quality to me and I would like to keep the magic this system has.

                              The point has come where this is no longer possible... outdated SSL libraries will cause issues sooner or later. If you can overcome the plugin installation issue, the next problem might be accessing your preferred music service, or a radio station or whatever. Your system is simply too old to live in today's internet.

                                Are you listening to music via the sound card of your Ubuntu PC with LMS installed on it?
                                Or are you talking about the sound quality of Squeezebox players connected to LMS on your Ubuntu PC?

                                In the first case I can imagine that the Ubuntu version makes a difference for the audio quality, although I suspect it is more likely that audio quality differences are caused by a different sound card driver or different alsamixer settings.

                                In the second case I cannot imagine that the Ubuntu version of the PC that runs LMS makes a difference for the audio quality of the Squeezebox players that are connected to LMS. But I am open for arguments and/or explanations.
