RL: Enable the iPeng workaround in LMS Settings > Advanced > Ratings Light > Menus and restart LMS. Track rating with iPeng should work. Doesn't it?
DPL3: If the latest version 3.6.3 still has issues with iPeng, I'd appreciate a bug report with some details in the DPL3 thread.
As posted in the other thread:-)

    AWESOME!
I just reinstalled RL and DP3, and everything works perfectly now.
I dont know what went wrong the first time, but i am a happy camper now.
The Ipeng workaround is fine , why do you not like it?
Erlands plugins worked well, but they are not officially supported anymore, so i am thankful for your commitment:-)
And your DP3 is actually quite a bit better for me, nicer built in options like "last added by genre" and it still works with SQL playlists!
    AWESOME!

    Thanks a lot

    • Export replace file extension

I really love the option, to replace filepaths when exporting ratings as playlists. For me it’s super useful because I have a lossy mirror on Rockbox iPod . I tested and it works flawlessly. No need to open everything in Texteditor and do find and replace.

      Concerning file extension:
All my flacs on server are mirrored as m4a on ipod, but: my mp3 on server are mp3 on ipod, too.

Would it be possible to change your plugin So mp3 stays mp3, and flac is replaced by m4a?
Only if it would be very easy for you to do, right now I am just using a simple find and replace in a text editor:-)
      Thank you

      • Hi everyone,

I'm quite new to LMS. I use it in conjunction with Dephile.

I can't manage to proper display (RL_RATING_STARS) my rating tags and hope you would give me some help.

All my metadata are properly imported into LMS, as "more Info>View Tags" shows my Metadata rating tags as "RATING:4" - just as example.

But how to import into RL?

        1) do I have to set BPM or Comments Tag?

        2) supposed it is Comments Tag (what I believe), what do I have to fill in the two fields "set your rating keywords"? What do I have to fill in here, in order to make my metadata rating tags (value 1 - 5) visible?

Hoping to get some help here.

          Ratings in the LMS database use a rating scale from 0 to 100: 0 = no rating, 10 = 0.5 stars, 20 = 1 star, 30 = 1.5 stars ... 80 = 4 stars, 90 = 4.5 stars, 100 = 5 stars.

Since the LMS scanner does not import rating values from metadata rating tags, you would use RL to import them from other tags (BPM/comments):
you can use the BPM tag or the comments tag (requires keywords). BTW if you want to switch from comments to BPM in RL settings, don't forget to click Apply at the bottom. You don't need keywords for BPM.

So all you need now is a script or software that writes your ratings to the BPM tags using the LMS rating scale (e.g. 80 for a 4-star rating).
Or, if you want to use comments tags, have it add something like favlevel4xx (for a 4-star rating) to the comments tag. favlevel and xx are just examples. You can use any keywords you like. Simple ones using lower case characters from a-z work best.

My suggestion: use the BPM tag if you don't use it otherwise.
          Hope that helped.

          • AF1,

thank you very much for your help! According to your advice I just played around, adding tag fields and tag values to a selected album (using foobar2000 for the last 20 years) and then imported it.

            1) if I create a Comment tag field, I have to set the tag value to "favstars4xx" for a 4 star rating
            2) if I create a BPM tag field, I have to set the the tag value to "80" for a 4 star rating

            correct?

So I have to add a new field to all of my tracks (about 50.000 flac files), either Comment or BPM and fill in the appropriate value. Right?
Could you recomment a software which would do this - as batch tagging?

And one last question: you write:
My suggestion: use the BPM tag if you don't use it otherwise.
            What do you mean with
if you don't use it otherwise
            ?

            Thanks for your help!

Yes. “favlevel“ and “xx“ are the default keyword values (see previous post).
I'm not very familiar with FLAC tags/Vorbis comments but I think you can use the DESCRIPTION tag. It's mapped to comments in LMS.

Yes, if you don't use it for its intended purpose, i.e. to store a track's beats per minute in the BPM tag.

You don't have to add a (BPM) tag to all files. Only to the ones that are rated. If a track/file has no BPM tag, I think LMS will just set BPM to null in the database and RL will consider this track as unrated.
BPM might be slightly faster because it already has the rating value in its correct form.

I'm not familar with Windows software. I don't use it but someone mentioned mp3tag which is supposed to handle all kinds of tags.

              • @AF1,

everything works fine. Foobar2000 is a real swiss nife! It's masstagger did all the work, like copy value between fields, rename, etc. I used COMMENT tag.

On the other hand: I had been using the Custom Scan plugin. It did all the work, but for some days now, you can't install the plugin any more. I hope someone will update and carry on with this plugin, which would be a great ease for users like me.

                Thanks a lot again!

I assume Erland's repo is working again. Anyway, I recently found a modified version of Custom Scan in one of my backups that I had totally forgotten about because I created it almost 2 years ago during a covid lockdown for a friend. I've uploaded it to GitHub in case anyone is interested. There's no support from me though. Although I don't use it I suppose it's working because I haven't heard anything back that says it's not. :-)

I know that with Ratings Light that I can use export and import to sync, but is there a file with the ratings that I can just rsync to my 2nd location?

Not an answer to your question, but I am using a VPN connection to connect to my LMS at home. It is working on my squeezebox touch, and it is awesome, maybe some thing for you? Only one LMS then, no need to sync anything.

In any event, easy enough for me to do an export and import of the Ratings, but just out of curiosity, how does Ratings Lite store the ratings? Is it recorded directly into the LMS database?

Creating a backup and restoring from a backup is one way, provided the audio file paths are the same. VPN might be easier.
Ratings are stored in the tracks_persistent table of the LMS persistent database file and they are linked to file paths/urls (see FAQ).
