  • When I pause music and then press play, Spotty starts track from start

    Hi,

I've been using Spotty with LMS for many years. Thanks for all of your work.
When I pause music that is playing via Spotty and then I press play to continue the music, it always starts the track from the start. This happens regardless of track.

I'm using Spotify Family and have about 4 separate people using Spotty with the one LMS server, although I've confirmed that the problem happens even when I'm the only user. I have setup the Spotify Client ID in my plugin settings.

    I'm using LMS 8.3.0 - 1643414649 @ audiodigitale.eu 29-01-2022.
It happened with the previous LMS 8.2 (I upgraded to see if it would fix the problem)
The OS is FreeBSD 12.2-RELEASE-p12 (I'm using TrueNAS 12 and running LMS in a Jail)
    Architecture is amd64-freebsd
    Perl version is 5.34.0
My only plugins (beyond the built-in ones) are:
Spotty 4.8.1 (this problem has been going on a while and it happened with previous Spotty versions)
Spotty Helper Application for FreeBSD 11.0.35.0
    Material Skin 2.9.2

I have a variety of players including various Squeezebox Radios (running the custom firmware), Squeezebox receiver, Squeezebox Classic 3 and a Boom, but in my office (where I get the problem 100% of the time) I'm actually using Squeezelite-X since my youngest daughter pinched my Boom.

I personally get the problem both from the LMS web interface (using Material Skin) and from the UI of Squeezelite-X. I don't know if I get the problem if I choose to pause on a SB Radio directly. I can get one of my daughters to confirm (but they reported the problem to me, so I guess they do).

I've noticed that when playing music, the blue progress bar moves across the screen as the track progresses, but if I choose to manually pick a position (e.g. to skip forwards) then the music always starts at the start again. So I think the pause problem is part of a larger problem - I can view the music progress, but I cannot manually pick a position to start playing music from.

Other than this problem, the system works flawlessly. I listen to music using Spotty at least 4 hours a day (I listen to music while coding) and it has worked perfectly for years. Thanks again.

Apologies if this is a known problem, I've had a search but there are a lot of very long threads.

    Simon

Put it somewhere outside the LMS installation. Restart LMS. You should
then see the new one being picked up in the Spotty settings.

Did you confirm you can run spotty-custom.exe from the command line?
When I run spotty-custom from the command line, it comes up with "The image file... is valid, but it is for a machine type other than the current machine" :-(

Could you be a bit more specific about where to store the spotty-custom file...

      Thanks, Phil

I don't provide spotty helper binaries for *BSD. What version did you
install (see Spotty settings)? And how did you do so?

Hmm... odd. That's the last 32-bit build I know of. I no longer am able
          to build 32-bit Windows binaries.

Maybe it's really time to get a Pi to run your LMS on...

If you want to stick with WHS1, you could try to go back in the file's
history and see whether you can find some other build which would be
            working:

But please note that those builds come with their shortcomings, too.

              In Spotty settings I see:
              Spotty Helper Application:
              /usr/local/share/logitechmediaserver/Cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/SpottyBinFreeBSD/Bin/spotty-custom (v0.35.0)

I installed using the installer provided here:

I have no memory whatsoever of installing the binary manually, so I'm pretty certain that the lms_installer handled it for me.

I did it this way because previously (when I used earlier versions of LMS), I remember the installation was a total nightmare and it took a long time to get it all working. So when I built a new TrueNAS 12 NAS, I looked around for simpler ways to do it, and the lms_installer at the link I provided above was mentioned quite a bit by various people / articles / forums.

Hmm, so I've just taken apart the BZ2 which contains all the files that the lms_installer installs and there is no sign of Spotty in there at all.
I'm convinced this is where my current LMS came from, but clearly I got the Spotty helper binary from somewhere else.

Spotty itself automatically updates from your repo. So it is just the helper binary I'm confused about.

Ah... It's in the LMS community plugins list:

So it is in the plugins list under "3rd party plugins". The author is "Richard Herman".

Oh, that's quite old... You could try to compile the file yourself?

OK sure I'll give it a go. I presume I'll need a FreeBSD 12.2 VM with GCC installed. I'll read some guides, and give it a shot. If it works I'll provide a link to the binary and / or instructions explaining exactly what I did.

                      Thanks,

I'm not sure about gcc. It's written in Rust.

The repro you have http://www.herger.net/slim-plugins/repo.xml links to Spotty here:

But that link is "dead" probably blocking port 80.

https://downloads.nixda.ch/Spotty-4.8.1.zip works fine. Maybe update your repo.xml links?
