I agree. Depends upon what you think is more important - artist name or tack count / total duration. Do you really need the artist name here, considerig you probably clicked "My Music -> Artist > ARTIST -> ALBUM"

    An observation about this.

Depending on what client you are using the Album Artist is often not visible at all.

The screenshot is Material on a PC set to utilise half of a widescreen monitor in Desktop layout but on a Mobile the same applies - arguably worse.
    .
I have browsed to 12 of Their Greatest Hits by Roxy Music - nowhere is "Roxy Music" currently actually visible due to the length of the album title (which isn't that long actually)

That said I don't see the point of repeating "Roxy Music" under every track - wouldn't it be better located on the top line in front of "12 Tracks (48:38)" ?

I'm leaning that way, to - but have time on right, as per queue. The current implementation always shows artist, so I'm going to see what its like. I can then adjust the code to remove this if they are the same as the artist of the album.

With the time shown as a sub-title, album-artist shown next to title in toolbar, and track artists would be shown next to each title. The issue I have with this is that I don't like showing the album artist name to the right of the album name in the toolbar. If I could I'd have some sort of auto-collapsing breadcrumb widget, so that if there was space the album-artist would be shown to the left. But I have no idea how to do this, so that items on the left are removed when insufficient space. Hence the current compromise of showing on the right - as that is the side where text is truncated (so album-artist is truncated before the album name). Now I realise I could create a taller toolbar here, so as to have 3 lines - but I like the symmetry with the queue. I could also, perhaps, show artist name as the subtitle in the toolbar - but that would then give insufficient space (when using mobile devices) to see track count and total duration...

Therefore, I'm thinking of making the browse track list look similar to that in the queue, as shown below:

Click image for larger version Name:	bl-proposed.png Views:	53 Size:	179.8 KB ID:	1649190

...and for a various artists album:
Click image for larger version Name:	bl-proposed-va.png Views:	53 Size:	171.4 KB ID:	1649191

I'm not 100% convinced on the artist-name being shown when its the same for all tracks. However, it does allow me to remove it from the toolbar, and is consistent with Spotify (I checked open.spotify.com). I could only show the sub-text if each track has a different artist, but then I need to locate a suitable place to show the album-artist.

For completeness, tech info and ratings would be shown on the same line as is used for artists here.

Thoughts/ideas? Please note I'm not looking for a complete re-write, or some overly fancy style with separate lines for composers, conductors, etc.
I prefer the current view Craig. I don't really need the Artist under each track. Seems superfluous to me except for compilation albums.

Not sure, but anyway this is getting side-tracked - the whoel point was to discuss the new-look track listing and whether to always show artist (even if the same for all tracks).

Different use cases I guess. But never been of interest to me, and definitely not so prominent.

I have lots of different versions of some albums. I may be in the minority but I’m certainly not alone!

    Thanks, Craig.

Ah, the required setting for this was removed in 3.4.0 as I saw no real point in fullscreen with Android's gesture navigation and as a user reported issues with it. For fullscreen, etc, I recommend you use the Material APK anyway.
