As a follow up, when I launch the app, the audio from LMS starts playing but the LMS interface never loads. Just see a blank screen with the logo and loading spinner.

Follow up to the follow up. I had to uninstall and clean the registry and then reinstall and it started working again.

Thank you taking the time to let me know. Let me know if it happens again and perhaps we can get some log information. I can't say what caused it, but it seems that the CLI connection succeeded but it failed to load the web page. (I'm assuming you are using Material Skin.)

Are you using the store version or the regular "legacy" installer?

I have done this to myself before by making manual changes to material skin source and breaking it. I suppose it could also happen if you manually install/update the Material Skin add-in without clearing the cache. Or, of course, it could be something else (bug?).

Anyway, I am suspecting the browser cache more than the registry. The legacy installer would have removed the browser cache on uninstall. There are also "Clear Cache" and "Reset All" options in advanced settings that would do the same thing, assuming you could get to settings.

In any case, I'm going to look at detecting this scenario, i.e. something prevents the web page from loading and my code does not receive an "OnNavigationCompleted" message from the browser.

I believe that I originally had used the legacy installer but used the MS Store version when I reinstalled. I was not using Material Skin originally but I am now.

Thanks again. The legacy installer will delete SLX's private browser cache on uninstall and I think that is what actually fixed your problem.

In considering this scenario, it occurred to me that it might have been more difficult if you experienced the issue with the Store app in the first place, because the Store App will not delete the cache on uninstall. There does not appear to be a way of doing such a thing with a store app. The cache cannot be in the Store App installation location because that is protected from the WebView2 browser engine and it does not get deleted on uninstall because it is not part of the Store app's virtual file structure. I'm researching it, but in the meantime, I'm making a change for the next version to get the cache cleared after re-installing the Store version. The change works by noticing that a registry setting is missing (which would be the case after an uninstall/install) and so clears the cache.

For those switching between the legacy installer and the Store App, I recommend always uninstalling one before installing the other.

              • App not conforming to windows output device

I'm not long re-visiting LMS having been away for a few years.

Squeezelite-X seems to be just what I'm after for a desktop controller/player with one pretty significant "bug".

If I'm using it as a player and a decide to switch to my noise cancelling headphones it refuses to switch output devices to the headphones. Literally everything else switches without issue. Is there are workaround for this or another similar app that behaves as I would like?

                Thanks

I'm a simple user so I'm not offering any special wisdom or anything but... have you checked the Player Output Device setting in the program? If you select Primary Sound Driver (Windows DirectSound) it should work the way you want. If it doesn't it's worth investigating, I agree.

You are more sophisticated than I - you prompted me to solve it; i'd been missing the settings screen in the program and thought i was limited to what was under player in LMS. Thank-you!

I forgot to say thank you for creating and providing great support for this application.

Is there a preference between using the legacy installer and the Store App?

The applications are identical in terms of function, just packaged differently. The differences have to do with installation, updates, and how Store Apps are containerized.

                        Advantages of Store version:

The store app will update automatically from the store.
Store apps go through a certification to make sure it does not have viruses and behaves properly, so in general Store apps are "safer" (though in this case the code is the same).
Store app updates are more efficient (only deltas need be downloaded, though this is not consequential since SLX is already small)
I can get telemetry from Store apps (assuming the user allows it), so I can see failure info in some cases
Store apps virtualize their registry and storage and cannot write to the "regular" registry nor sensitive file areas
Store apps do not require admin privileges to install

                        Advantages of Legacy Installer:
You can roll back to previous version if I screw something up

I always recommend the store app, but some prefer the legacy installer to better control updates and potential roll-backs.

I am facing the same issue, Windows 11 10.0.2621 build 22621 . All was fine then about two weeks ago the interface stopped displaying properly, just a rotating white ring on black background. Tried unistalling, wiped registry (1 key) and reinstalling, still no interface. The app plays on the PC, but there is no interace displayed. Any ideas? Thanks!

In my case I switched from using the legacy installer to the MS Store installer. Not sure if that makes a difference in this case. When I uninstall anything I use Revo Uninstaller. The normal MS uninstall process does not clean the registry sufficiently. Plus Revo has options to clean browser caches as well.

Now a request for R Greg Dawson. In the standard LMS interface under MyMusic there is an option to play tracks by "Folder". Is it possible to add that to your interface?

This doesn't sound like a SQ-X item, are you using the Material skin?

If yes, go to Settings > Interface > scroll down to "My Music" click the cog and tick the items you wish to appear.
