I guess I will try by-passing what the component tool chain is doing and manually control the creating of the taskbar interface. Coming soon.
After fiddling with the first three toggles, 'Run in background' toggled on appears to be enough on its own to avoid the error after a restart.

    • Need to set Squeezelite-X as visible in the tray after every reboot

I would like for Squeezelite-X to be always visible in the tray, I set it as such in Windows under Settings, Personalization, Taskbar, Select which icons appear on the taskbar. And it works.

My problem is I have to do this after every reboot, because for some reason the setting is not saved. All other icons I choose to set as always visible remain so after a reboot.

Old bug, same for me, needs dragging down onto the taskbar every computer or application start.

While I'm here - why is the SQ-X icon sometimes blue other times changes to teal which is almost identical to the LMS icon but with square corners?

I have the same (or similar problem) The SL-X Icon used to stay in the taskber fine in Windows 10
However with Windows 11 every now and then I have to drag it back even with "show all icons" enabled (Maybe after an update ?)
Have never seen the LMS-Like icon though

If I right click the SQ-X icon in the system tray and select Exit, then start SQ-X from a desktop shortcut, I get a popup saying that SQ-X is running the icon is teal, picture below.

This immediately disappears, and I have to drag it down to the system tray, the icon is now blue.

Using material skin, I can restart LMS, the icon becomes grey with a triangle/exclamation mark until LMS is running.

Oh, man! Dragging and dropping those icons never occured to me. Even if the bug is not fixed, you saved me quite a few clicks (it's a small thing but kinda annoying, so thank you, really).

Also, I'm on Windows 10 Pro x64 21H1 if it matters somehow.

Blue is supposed to mean the squeezelite player is enabled and the green one means it is not enabled. I can just make it always blue if you all want.

                  Thanks Greg

Blue would suit me, as I don't use the squeezelite player option, it's not enabled, ever.

I'm not sure I understand what you're suggesting. I'm currently using version 2.11.6.0 and the icon is grey when squeezelite is off and blue when squeezelite it's on. I don't see a reason to change this behavior, as it's quite intuitive (at least for me).

Any thought about the taskbar visibility setting not being saved?

Some explanation... This is complicated. The Windows API does not offer any method or API or registry setting to programmatically control whether the tray icon appears or is in the hidden area. The default is to locate the tray icon in the hidden area, which is why it reverts there after an update/re-install. It should remain/"stick" on reboots, though, so your comment above caught my attention. I was able reproduce your observation that the icon went back to the hidden area on computer restart. I went into Settings|Personalize|TaskBar - Notification Area - "Select which icons appear on the taskbar". In my case I noticed that I had SLX in this list several times. That is because I build and test multiple configurations of SLX: Win32/Win64/Store Version/regular version. Windows seems to remember any program it has ever seen. When I clicked them all on, then the icon stayed in the tray.

You may see programs listed in "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" area that have long since been uninstalled and/or are no longer on your system. They are very trick to remove (answers.microsoft.com). If you have ever switch between the Store version and the Traditional version, you may see them both there. I'd say try clicking them both/all on. YMMV. Anyway, this is a Windows thing. There is nothing more I can safely do.

Green: Squeezelite Player is not enabled
Blue: Squeezelite Player is enabled and "On"
Grey: Squeezelite Player is enabled and "Off"

If you are not connected to LMS server, then you get Grey with a caution icon.

                          • New Version 2.11.19.0

I just submitted a new version to the store and OneDrive location.

                            Changes:
                            • Attempt to avoid the "Could not register tab" exception that some have seen on start up. This was an exception that I could not reproduce on any of my machines, so I am shooting in the dark a bit.

I had these two entries in that list, on top of the "correct" installed version. Turning these two on, in addition to the correct version, appears to have solved the problem.
