What would be the cheapest raspberry pi model to be used as a player connected to a receiver?

Pi 4B-1GB ($35) or Pi Zero W ($15; no analog out, no ethernet) both work with piCorePlayer.

How is it to be connected to your receiver? Does receiver have HDMI or USB input?

What I want to add is that when connecting the RPi player to an analog line input of the receiver, it is recommended to either use an external USB DAC, or mount a DAC HAT board on the RPi. The audio quality of the analog headphone output on the RPi board is pretty bad.

took an unused pi3 from work and sat it up with picoreplayer. works fine over hdmi with tv off.
