View Full Version : Wide character in send at /PerlApp/Slim/Player/SLIMP3.pm line176

Running latest nightly, server crashes repeatedly after about 5-15 minutes
of streaming to SLIMP3.
Running XP. Consistently get this error message on crash: "Wide character
in send at /PerlApp/Slim/Player/SLIMP3.pm line 176"

Although I can't be positive, the actual source of the stream doesn't seem
to matter. I've been able to recreate via
http://64.236.34.97:80/stream/1005

Anything I can do to provide more info, please let me know. Player firmware
version is 2.2.

Any thoughts on this. I'm still getting consistent crashes with this error
msg on XP after only 5-10 minutes of streaming. Reboots don't help.

Hi Mike,

What are you streaming to the player at that time? I'd like to
reproduce the problem here.

Hi Dean -

Although I can't be positive, the actual source of the stream doesn't seem
to matter. I've been able to recreate via
http://64.236.34.97:80/stream/1005

If you can't recreate, let me know if I can turn on some debug switches,
etc., for you.

Dean -

I just wanted to add that (after my turkey day dinner) I upgraded to the
latest and greatest (5.8.4) perl from Activestate.com and the problem didn't
go away. (win server still crashing with "Wide character in send" message.)

I did notice that I received a complaint "Use of unitialized value in
addition (+) at Playlist.pm line 183 and 186 before the crash as well.

Any chance you can look into this one? I am dead in the water with 5.4 and
can consistently recreate the problem on a public internet stream. Again,
I'd be happy to send you diagnostic info to narrow it down. I am running XP
with the service pack, firewall disabled.

Thanks
Mike

Mike,

I couldn't reproduce it, but I did check in a fix that should make
things better. Please try it with latest nightly build tomorrow.

Dean - OK ready to try it.

Can you put the windoze exe out there - it seems to be missing from the
11/30 build.

Thanks

Dean -

I narrowed it down to the RSS plugin screensaver. As soon as I stopped
using yahoo news RSS feed as a screensaver on my Squeezebox and SLIMP3 (I
have both devices) the problem went away.
