Hi,
I'm having a problem streaming OGG files on Redhat 7.3. I can stream
FLAC, MP3 and WAV no problem. I have tried Slimserver 5.3 and 5.4.

When attempting to play OGG files on the Squeezebox, it cycles through
the queued songs, (the elapsed time shows 1 or 2 seconds before it
goes onto the next song) failing to play any songs in OGG format. Am I
correct in understanding that I don't need to have libogg, libvorbis,
or vorbistools installed, when running Slimserver 5.4? (FYI, these
libraries are installed as shiped with RH 7.3).

Yours, firmly stuck in novice mud,
Thomas.

go into server settings, debugging.
check d_source, click change.
try playing the ogg tracks.
look at /tmp/slimserver.log for information (assuming you installed the standard
RPM)
The log wil contain the process of creating the playback, and will show where
the actul problems are happening. you can post the relevant section here.

OK, this sounds like the ogg version problem. The clever people
at Vorbis land changed the command line syntax between oggdec
v1.0 and v1.0.1.

Slimserver ships with v1.0.1, and assumes it will find this
one first. If it finds v1.0 then it won't work properly.

(Or it's the other way round.....)

Anyway, try editing /usr/local/slimserver/convert.conf.

The lines that say:
ogg wav * *
[oggdec] -Q -o - -R $FILE$

Will need to be changed to
ogg wav * *
[oggdec] -Q -o - -R 1 $FILE$

Or vice versa (if you have the "1" then take it out,
otherwise put it in.)

(and similarly for ogg mp3 * * lines)

Hope this helps.

Hi guys,

Sorry about the delay in getting back with the output from my
/tmp/slimserver.log file.

The following is output when trying to stream OGG files with
Slimserver 5.4 and the OGG libraries that ship with RedHat 7.3
installed (it 'appears' oggdec is not supplied with these libraries);

"/usr/bin/oggdec: error while loading shared libraries:
libvorbisfile.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory"

After I copied oggdec from the Slimserver dierctory to "/usr/bin", the
following is output;

"/usr/bin/oggdec: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found
(required by /usr/lib/libvorbis.so.0)"

From this I would guess that oggdec is not shipped with RH 7.3 so the
files cannot be decoded and glibc is required for ogg versions > 1.x.
From a quick scout around the web it appears that it is not very
straightforward/possible to install glibc > 2.3.x on RH 7.3!

Any suggestions appreciated! Is there a version of the ogg libraries
later that those in RH 7.3 which don't require glibc 2.3?

There were also some other entries in the log file, which I didn't
understand, but don't suspect they are part of the problem;
"Use of uninitialized value in addition (+) at
/usr/local/slimserver/Slim/Buttons/Playlist.pm line 183."
"Use of uninitialized value in addition (+) at
/usr/local/slimserver/Slim/Buttons/Playlist.pm line 186."
"getpeername() on closed socket Symbol::GEN4 at
/usr/lib/perl5/5.6.1/i386-linux/IO/Socket.pm line 200."

Cheers,
Thomas.
