I have a squeezebox with the old screen (40x2 character display) and I
am considering upgrading to the new screen (280x16 graphic vacuum
fluorescent display module).

Info: http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_display_upgrade.html

I've looked at the pictures on slimdevices.com and loaded SoftSqueeze to
try and get a good idea of what the new screen looks like, but I haven't
quite made a decision yet. Is it a lot more legible from a distance? Are
the "custom fonts and improved user interface" as well as "advanced
graphics and high speed animation capabilties" worth the cost of upgrading?

If anyone who has upgraded or used the old and new screens has an
opinion or comments it would be appreciated.

Just do it - it's a great upgrade. (I have.)

Absolutely, yes. I run mine using the largest sized font and I can sit
across the room and see what's playing and also use the remote to navigate
the menus. So not only is the display is more aesthetically pleasing, it's
also more functional.

I have no regrets -- and the upgrade was painless. Slimdevices includes
step-by-step instructions, with pictures. Hard to go wrong even if you
have little or no experience with hardware.

Go for it!

I just added another SB with the new display and upgraded my original unit. If
you use it frequently , you should do it...much easier to read.
