View Full Version : RSS feed crashes slimserve

When I select the following RSS feed in SoftSqueeze
http://www.nrk.no/rss
the slimserver crashes. Other feeds work fine.
I have verified that the problematic feed works OK in FeedReader.
It therefore seems like slimserver and/or softsqueeze is having a problem
with this specific feed.

Is anyone else able to display this feed?

You don't write about your system, but I guess you're using perl 5.6.
Comment out line 350 in the RssNews.pm file (plugins folder). This is a
known problem with older versions of perl.

I have similar problems:
Windows XP Pro
Official 5.4.0 slimserver
Activeperl 5.8.4
From event viewer:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Application ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry
information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this
description; see Help and Support for details. The following
information is part of the event: Can't use an undefined value as an
ARRAY reference at D:/Program
Files/SlimServer/server/Plugins/RssNews.pm line 798.

Line 798 is this:
if ($thenews{$feedname} &&

Jonas,

In your case, the crash is due to the feed being downloaded, but
containing no items at all. So you could say no news is bad news.

I've checked in changes to gracefully handle this situation.
