Yes, that's the idea. The Linkstation is an 8260 PPC system with 64Mb of memory
and runs a version of Linux. It's tight memory-wise, but I'm tempted to try :-)
The big benefits are the low power-consumption (17w) and small physical size.
It's available in capacities of 120, 160, 250 and 300Gb.

(There's another product called KuroBox which essentially the same as a
LinkStation, but sold bare with no hard-drive)

FWIW, all it took to install SlimServer on my Kuro Box was to install
the perl binaries from the Buffalo website's collection. I haven't
given it a thorough workout yet, and it did take a while to scan my
6000+ track collection, but it seemed to work even under 64MB RAM.
