View Full Version : transcoder_proxy and hiccups
Hi!
What's transcoder proxy do and why is it consiuming 50-99% of my CPU?
I've been having hiccups in playback for a while now -- for about the
last 6 months, and I've just been living with it. But it is beginning to
drive me crazy: the must will just pause for 5 seconds. It doesn't seem
like it always picks back up where it left off either.
This may have all started when I got a new Squeezebox which I keep
synced to my old slimp3. I've also noticed some sync. issues with these
two. Is
I'm running RedHat 8.0 on a dual P2 400 with 1GB of RAM. Both players
run the latest firmare and I'm running Slimserver 5.3.1.
Thanks,
rjw

Hiya.
transcoder_proxy is part of AlienBBC. It's spawned the first time you enter
the plugin, and hangs around subsequently.
As for 50-99% of CPU... if you're playing AlienBBC streams, then it's
providing a bridge between the server and the external helper that is
playing the stream. If you're not playing AlienBBC streams, then it should
use minimal CPU (although there's a new version pending that will be even
more lightweight while idle).
Is your skipping problem happening on just AlienBBC streams, or on all
music?

Ah, hm, I just recently installed AlienBBC, so that makes some sense. I
don't actually use it though, as I've had trouble getting it to play
anything.
The skipping happened before and after I installed AlienBBC.
