View Full Version : Do you recommend buying a squeezebox?

Can I testify? Every time I use the thing, I remark to myself (or
whoever is around) that the Squeezebox is the best thing I have bought
in many years. It really will change the way you listen to your music.
Before I got it, I had slacked off on buying CDs simply because they
were taking up too much room, and becoming impossible to manage. I would
buy a CD and it would disappear on the shelf and never get played.
Finding the right disc to play (and replacing it every 45-60 minutes)
was a hassle, so I wasn't listening to my music that much. Now my CDs
are in the basement, my living room is nice and clean, and I am buying
CDs much more frequently. My only (minor) problem has been with the
iTunes integration, so I turned it off. I may try going back to see if
it works better now, but it really hasn't bothered me not having it. Now
Slim just needs to develop an in-dash automotive version that updates
over the wireless network when I pull into the driveway...

This isn't the way I mostly use my Squeezebox, and my use may also be
of interest.

As soon as the BBC introduced its Listen Again service, I listened to
a lot more radio. I often saved the stream to my hard disk (using
Audio Hijack (Pro) on my Mac). But I still had to listen at my
computer. Now I send the saved programmes to my Squeezebox and can
listen in my sitting-room and other rooms.

It's a great change, and I use it very frequently.

Also, I am (slowly) transferring to my computer music that I had on
reel to reel tape and never listened to because it was too much of a
hassle to find the tape containing a given piece.
