You are quite right, Roku say they don't yet support 5.3, it's no real
problem as mostly I use iTunes as my music server (much faster browsing) so
I will revert to 5.2 for when I want to synchronise.

Cheers

I'm trying out different plugins, and I've gotten some to work*, but I'm
having trouble getting the Stock Quote plugin to work. I've put
StockQuote.pm in the Server/Plugin directory and I see the check in the box
for it in Server Settings/Plugins but nothing ever shows up in the plugins
menu when scrolling through with the remote (Slimp3 or Softsqueeze).

Anyone have any idea what is going on?
Bruce

stop the server,
run the following from a command prompt window:
c:\program files\slimserver\slim.exe --d_plugins

the resulting debug output will show you any errors found as the server loads
the plugins. This needs to be done from the command prompt so that you get the
debug from the startup. simply using the web interface after starting teh
service is too late in the process to get the right info.

OK, here's where I show my ignorance. How do I get to the 'command prompt
window'. I tried the "Run" window but I just get an error message because
it chokes on the space after 'program' in C:\program files\... I also
typed Command into the run window and got a window called
Windows\system32\command.com, but it won't take the commands -
c:\program files\slimserver\slim.exe --d_plugins
'c:\program files\slimserver\slim.exe --d_plugins'
'c:\program files\slimserver\slim.exe' --d_plugins
"c:\program files\slimserver\slim.exe --d_plugins"
"c:\program files\slimserver\slim.exe" --d_plugins

all fail due to one reason or another (e.g. not a command file, batch file,
etc).

(I'm running Windows XP SP2)

I put a check in the plugin debug box in server settings/debugging, and this
yields entries like the one below for the Live365 plugin problem. It looks
like the plugin is not passing a URL that can be used.

sorry:
"c:\program files\slimserver\server\slim.exe" --d_plugins

or wherever you have slim.exe stored if you didn't just choose the default
install dir.

Here's the error message I get when StockQuote.pm is loading:

2004-10-18 13:28:52.6716 Requiring Plugins::StockQuote plugin.
2004-10-18 13:28:52.6828 Con't load Plugins::StockQuote for Plugins menu:
Undefined subroutine &Plugins::StockQuote::getDisplayName called at
/PerlApp/Slim/Buttons/Plugins.pm line 175, <DATA> Line 1

I'm also seeing an error on Archive.pm:

syntax error at ...archive.pm line 2 near "HTML>" "use" not allowed in
expression at line 12 at end of line

looks like a bad download for archive.pm as you shouldn't have any HTML> i
there, but you would if you "save line as" on a page instead of the actual .pm
file.

I also suspect stockquote.pm of being a bad download too. its hard to miss a
non-existed getDisplayName routine.

actually, I think this is misleading. On looking at the plugin, I can tell for
a fact that it will not work for slimserver. It was written prior to v5.0
without being updated, and is thus SliMP3 only. It woudl need to be translated
to work with slimserver 5 and higher.

fortunately, I happen to be a user of the plugin, so I have a translated copy.

make sure you stop the slim service first. Then

start->run COMMAND
CD\program files\slimerver
slim --d_plugins

Thanks,
Your version works for me now. I wonder why the old version is still
posted?

some people dont upgrade the software when they are happy with what they have,
or they move on and no longer have the time/motivation to maintain their
plugins.
