Hi all

I have SB3 wirelessly streaming FLAC and spotify through my retro kit of Denon PMA 250 III amp and Mission 760i speakers.

I also have a 50% discount code which is burning a hole in my pocket so could get a touch for 130.

My question is, would I notice a significant improvement in sound quality by swapping in the touch to my modest retro kit. The plan might eventually be to upgrade amp and speakers.

Code expires on 24th November!!

You should keep the SB3 and give me the 50% code!!

Is there any place where you may also wish to have sound, such as bedroom? If so, consider getting the Touch for your main system. Then connect the SB3 to a pair of self-powered speakers (such as Audioengine A2, or whatever your budget permits) in another room. Or if you have old amp and speakers lying around use that instead. SBs really do prefer to live in packs.

To my ears on my mid-fi system, the analog outs of the Touch are noticeably superior to the SB3's. Not "night vs day", but noticeable. It's hard for me to say if it would be "significant" on your system / room / ears.

Buy it, decide later whether to keep it or not!
Best case is you try it and agree to the anticipated upgrade in SQ.
Worse case is you unload it on eBay for what you paid for it, likely even make a buck. ;)

The Touch has better analog audio, but be aware of what you lose when you switch from SB3 to Touch. Some very useful (if you are into heavy customization) plugins don't work anymore, such as IR Blaster and KidsPlay.

I have two Touches, two SB3s, and one Boom. In places where I need the plugin functionality that doesn't work on Touch, I use SB3s...

Good point. Also, at greater distances the SB3's VFD screen is much easier to read than the Touch's LCD screen. Actual distance depends on your eyes, lighting, angle, etc, but in general it's hard for most people to read the Touch's screen beyond 3m / 10 feet.

Buy the Touch, sell the SB3 on eBay.

Yeah, I agree with this. It doesn't help that the screen is slightly angled upward, either, so because of viewing angles if you're not standing above it it's even harder to see from a distance.

I do like the display of the SB3 I must say, it's clear and neat. I wouldn't sell it but move to a room where I currently have a boom possibly with powered speakers.

Thanks for suggestions so far!!

Whatever you do about a touch, keep the SB3 - I think you'll regret it if you get rid. I've had every player aside from Boom since the start (and still have them all). The SB3 is rock solid, quality, and the visuals are just right. The touch is ok (I have 3), but it's overly complex and less stable than the SB3. SB3's seem to hold their value for a reason..

Another vote for this. That's what I did.

Actually not going to buy the touch, cant really justify the expense for what might be no discernable improvement.

Really like the SB3 and have players in all other rooms, thanks for your input.

Buy the Touch, sell the SB3 on eBay.

Or sell it to me :-) I want an SB3 but can't get one!
