Has anyone heard the Yamaha NS 777 speakers used with good amplification as a stereo pair?

Audiophile sources tend to rubbish such products, but I do see some good reports.

Audiophile sources tend to rubbish such products, but I do see some good reports.

They look substantial and weigh over 53 lbs. each. I assume they are rear-ported and they have enough cabinet volume to get down to the (ported) 30Hz. I'm a little old fashioned when it comes to tweeters made of metal (unless they are ribbons.)

I'd find them in a store and have a listen but I would be sure to have all the other speakers they're likely to have them connected with off. (Figuring out how to do that on a multichannel receiver might take a while.)

Yamaha equipment tends to be well made and they are the only 'mid-line' maker that still rates their amps at 20 to 20 rather than test tone at 1K.

I haven't seen any Yamaha speakers in a Best Buy for a while, which is a good sign since all the stuff BB <and Circuit City> sell is made specifically for them.

Is that $399 each? They should be decent at that price.
