View Full Version : SoftSqueeze does everything right except actually play music

I set up a new server (Win 2k server running 5.3.0) and I'm running
softsqueeze on another computer on the network but I don't get any
sound. SlimServer reports that the player is playing and so does the
soft player but I don't get any sound.

When I had the server running on the same machine as the player,
softsqueeze worked fine but now that the server's on another machine, it
doesn't work anymore. I went into options on softsqueeze and made sure
that it was looking to my server (named 'music') but I didn't enter the
actual IP address, I just selected the server name from the drop-down
list. Regardless, the server and the player stay in synch.

I'm still hoping that someone can help me with getting iTunes playlists
running under the same scenario. iTunes is on the client machine and it
auto-rips to the server but I don't want to set up shares or anything
and be forced to leave the client machine on all the time.

Thanks,
Jon

Jon,

Make sure everything is up to date - i.e. use the same or newer
softsqueeze revision that comes bundled with slimserver 5.3.0.

After checking that, if it still doesn't work let us know.

I upgraded from softsqueeze 1.0 to 1.4 by using the installer in
slimserver but now in addition to not playing music, the song titles in
the Now Playing window just hop all around at random. I think that this
is the screensaver but I'm not certain.

To refresh, the server (192.168.1.107) is running Server v. 5.3.0 and
the client (192.168.1.102) is running softsqueeze v. 1.4 with the
appropriate Java installation. In Options on softsqueeze, I selected
the netbios name 'Music' which is the 1.107 server and the player just
starts hopping around the song names like crazy. The same thing happens
if I type in the IP manually in that box.

I haven't gotten around to getting my hard squeezebox hooked up yet and
I'm hoping that I don't have the same problems!

Jon,

If you are not getting any sound from Softsqueeze, it's worth checking
the mixer setting in the configuration. The Java Sound Mixer will work
for all versions of Java and platforms, but on Windows you will get
better quality of sound using the Primary Sound Driver with Java 1.5. If
you have the wrong mixer selected you may not get any sound.

Regards,
Richard
