thx again kdf ... will ignoring the file that does not play at all for now,
the other file behaves as follows:

if i try to play it, it gets displayed on squeeze for about 1 second (in
which time it looks like it's trying to play the song in my opinion) then
jumps to the next song. i have no data to justify this, but it's almost like
the transcoding on the fly does not kick in, or that slim thinks the song is
incredibly short ...

i gathered the attached log today while i was trying to play just the
suspect track with nothing else in the playlist, but it does not mean much
to me - though it certainly looks like there are issues.

one other point of interest - slim will not display any of the comment tags
for my .m4a files. the other tags are all there and displayed properly, but
with the comment missing.

any help greatly appreciated.

thx.

h.

clearly...the one file that will not ever play has another issue with it.
turning on the d_source debugging and looking at the log will reveal things
like duration reading as zero, file permissions preventing reading, or an
external decoder reporting a corrupt file. There are still other
possibilities
that are not reported. Look at d_source first, whether by running from the
command line, or opening http://serverIP:9000/log.txt and playing that bad
file. When you look at the songinfo, do all the values look normal? When
you
play the song, does it try to play for a while, or is it simply silent?
Does
it skip immediately to the next song, or is there another type of behaviour?

Unfortuantely I know next to nothign about m4a files. Do your comments show up
from other m4a files?

From that log, the server certainly seems to think the file is playable, it
finds the right command, but as you guessed it seems to think the file ends
after just one second. can you try running the conversion command manually to
see what happens? In this case:

C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\mov123.exe"
"S:\Test\Get Physical Presents DJ T - Robot Riot (Electric Press Remix).m4a"

maybe mov123 will spit out something meaningful.

otherwise, you might need to have one of the other experts here have a look at
that file specifically to see if there is anything else.
