Trouble playing anything but MP3 and WAV files

Hello,

I am (still) having problems playing anything but MP3 and WAV files on my
Squeezebox.

MP3 and WAV play fine. However, when I try to play an Ogg or Flac file, the
SlimServer does one of two things:

1: If I am streaming as WAV, the playback is very stop-start - it will play
for a couple of seconds and then pause for a second, and so on. Note that I
can happily listen to uncompressed WAV files, so I doubt it's a congested
network;

2: If I am streaming as MP3, the SlimServer hangs and won't respond. It
will let me close it, but a service remains running that eventually requires
me to reset my PC as it won't shutdown normally. (This service appears in
Task Manager as "winoldap", but when I come to shutdown my PC, I get a
warning that I first need to close an open application: either "lame" or
"oggdec" or "slim" or "winoldap".)

I have no trouble playing Ogg and Flac files on my PC using foobar2000 - the
problem only occurs in SlimServer. My setup: Windows 98 SE, PIII 550 with
640 MB RAM. Currently running the nightly SlimServer from 27th September
with the latest firmware update.

Julian,

the slim server uses an executable called oggdec to decode the ogg
files, it is located in
C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
by default.

When you locate it then try and use it to decode one of your ogg files
(in this example called myoggfile.ogg):

oggdec -o test.wav myoggfile.ogg

Time how long it takes to finish the decoding - if the time to decode
is about the same or longer than the length of the song then you have
CPU problems
