Thanks. I use the Windows .EXE version. When will this get into the .EXE?

it will, once we have a review with CPAN and its approved for change. It is
unlikely this feature will be included before 5.3.1 is released.

Since you are on the CC list for the bug, you will be alerted when the bug gets
marked as fixed. The nightly build after that will include the EXE with the
fix.

The FAQ states:
"Does Squeezebox support Windows Media or Real Player formats?
.... We hope to add support for streamed WMA and Real formats in the near
future."

How is this coming? Are people actively working on it now?

What operating system are you using?
I am using Linux and managed to get it to play WMA quite easily - and I
am a complete Linu beginner. I think with windows WMA is played
automatically out of the box.

With real audio I am not so sure. Does any one use real audio to store
there music files? For streaming real audio files it is only possible in
linux using alienbbc, but it is quite unstable and quite difficult to
set up.

WMA (not DRM protected) files are supported by using the LAME decoder
adding. It works well (all my files are WMA)

Yes, I can play WMA *files*, but I was wondering about WMA and Real
*streams*. Many of the radio stations I would like to listen to stream in
WMA or Real formats - not mp3. It is support for these streamed formats
that I was inquiring about. Are there any plugins being worked on that I
haven't noticed?

there is some ongoing work on improving the streaming capabilities and the
transcoding. However, this work (as far as I am aware) is being taken on by a
couple of independant types who have expressed a desire to make some changes.
I have seen a working patch that plays ogg streams. its possible that this
patch could be extended to handle WMA but I can't say for sure since I haven't
examined the code with that in mind.

I also believe Jules is working on a way to get his AlienBBC plugin to work on
windows for handling Real Audio, at least from the BBC.

exact ETA for either, is impossible to say. its like any software, it will be
ready when its ready. it depends on making certian hurdles, and the
availabiliy of free time by the open source dev's in question.

Hey folks.

If this is a windows server query - then yes... I'm working on it... but
it's proving slightly awkward. Basically... it's working well enough to lock
up once it starts trying to send a stream, which (believe it or not) I
categorise as progress!

If you're a linux or MacOS/X user, then AlienBBC will already allow you to
stream both (non-DRM) WMA and RA files quite effectively. It'll also do
streaming OGG, although I believe Craig has a set of patches that'll push
that at least neatly back into the server.

The new version of AlienBBC is also compiling a list of non BBC streams to
offer as part of version 0.10. I'd be happy to add the streams you were
interested in to the database, too... might as well share them around ;)

What are the addresses of the streams you were after playing?

Vidur spent his weekend trying to get WMA and Ogg streaming working on
Windows reliably and he's made some good progress...

Thanks for the update.

Yes, this is a Windows question.

> What are the addresses of the streams you were after playing?

I like searching out good local shows on public radio stations. You can go
to www.publicradiofan.com to see numerous streams in several stream formats
and take your pick.
Here's one that I listen to regularly:

Thanks

oddly, there is a plublicradiofan plugin out there. I'm not sure what limits,
if any, there are on the types of streams that the plugin exposes or plays.
