Yeah I did consider that - but what's the matt surface composed of?
Is it some sort of coating or just a texture in the mould?
I might try spraying one white to see what happens.

I'd really like a clear one though - then I could justify buying
matching Harman Kardon Soundsticks to my other half...

You can get it in any color you want, as long as its Black! ;)

However why not just take the case apart and paint it? Would not be
that hard, the case is just two pieces that come apart really easily.
Just sand - light paint - sand and repeat until it looks good.

Or do like other people have done and make a whole new case.

It's called "soft touch" paint - a clear rubbery layer that is sprayed
and then baked on. The black color is the color of the polycarbonate
plastic underneath.

There may be a solvent that would remove it easily....
